His collaboration with Akina Nakamori was the talk of the town!

Former SMAP member Shingo Katori (47) released his third album “Circus Funk” on November 27, and the song “TATTOO (feat. Akina Nakamori),” a collaboration with the “legendary diva” Akina Nakamori (59), was distributed in advance on November 20, creating a great response.

Katori released his first solo album “20200101 (Niwaniwa Wai Wai)” on January 1, ’20.’ In April 2010, he released his second album, “Tokyo SNG,” and now he has released his third album, “Circus Funk,” digitally.

Prior to this, the title track “Circus Funk (feat. Chevon)” was distributed on November 13, and “TATTOO (feat. Akina Nakamori),” sung with Nakamori, on November 20, both of which have received high acclaim.

Katori, who said he liked Nakamori’s song “TATTOO,” approached Nakamori’s side, saying, “I would like to cover it for this album. After receiving permission, Katori boldly asked Nakamori to sing with her, and Nakamori readily agreed. They readily agreed.

On the day of recording, Katori asked Nakamori, “Why did you come this time? Nakamori replied, “I didn’t have a choice not to come because Katori-kun asked me to. I’ve been watching you for a long time. I was supporting you. The song was arranged and performed by the jazz band SOIL & “PIMP” SESSIONS.

The “TATTOO (feat. Akina Nakamori)” song was a “collaboration” between idol singers who colored the Heisei era, and it is likely that people other than Katori’s fans were attracted to the song as well.

After the distribution of the song began on January 20, it even ranked first in the iTunes Store rankings, ahead of Yonezu Genji’s “Azalea” (distributed on January 18). In addition, the sound source “Shingo Katori ‘Tattoo (feat. Akina Nakamori)’ Official Audio” on Katori’s YouTube page has received more than 1 million views. The comments on the video read,

I’m so happy to hear Akina’s powerful voice. Thank you, Shingo!

I didn’t realize their voices fit so well together. And the band’s performance is just great!

[Joon] I didn’t think anyone but Akina could adequately express this song, but this is brilliant. I must admit, I wasn’t paying much attention to Katori’s singing, so I was surprised.

[Joon] This is the first time I’ve heard Ms. Katori sing properly, and she has such a lovely voice! I had no idea.

Nakamori’s fans also praised Katori’s singing ability. Some were deeply moved by the collaboration.

The two have something in common: they performed together and talked about it.

In July 1989, Nakamori attempted suicide at the apartment of popular singer Masahiko Kondo of Johnny’s (now SMILE-UP.), with whom he was dating at the time. Furthermore, at the end of that year, a press conference was held with a “gold folding screen” in the background. At first, there were rumors that it might be a wedding press conference, but there was no such talk. Since it was an apology for the attempted suicide, it was even called the “Golden Folding Screen Incident.

In the end, the two broke up. Meanwhile, Katori had a hard time appearing on terrestrial TV after leaving the office in September 2005, partly due to the SMAP breakup scandal.

Netizens commented, “Shingo Katori and Akina Nakamori, two people who had a lot in common and were at the mercy of Johnny’s, hugged each other, and it made me feel strangely sad. Comments such as “……” were received.

And the album “Circus Funk” itself, which Katori released for distribution on the 27th, has also been well received. The title track, “Circus Funk (feat. Chevon),” is a collaboration with Chevon, a young band “known only to those in the know” who live in Sapporo, Hokkaido, and contains 11 other songs by Nakamori, Kroi, Zainichi Funk, Nomura, Green and Yellow Society, and other talented and gorgeous guests on every track. . Music fans are also paying attention to Katori’s album,

I listened to Shingo Katori’s album for Kroi and Chevon, but all the songs are so good I have them on repeat!

Shingo, you’ve broadened your range as an artist and your singing has improved.

Through “Circus Funk,” I’ve come to appreciate the greatness of Shingo Katori. The more I listen to it, the more I appreciate Shingo-kun’s antennae for the artists he collaborates with.

This has become a hot topic on social networking sites.

Next January, “Japan’s Worst Man *My Family Was a Fake”, the first Fuji TV drama starring Katori in 11 years, will begin. The song “Circus Funk (feat. Chevon),” which is used as the theme song, will be loved by even more people.
