His back is straight and his eyes are full of energy.

On November 29, it was announced that actor Teruyuki Kagawa (58) would be returning to drama after three years.

He will star in Renzoku Drama W Sai (Calamity) on WOWOW, playing a different character in each of the six episodes. The broadcast and streaming are scheduled for spring 2025.

“In August 2022, Daily Shincho reported on Kagawa’s sexual harassment of a woman at a restaurant, which led to further revelations of past power harassment incidents. As a result, he stepped down as the MC of TBS’s morning show THE TIME, in September of the same year. His last drama appearance was in the final episode of Roppongi Class (TV Asahi), which aired on September 29,” explained a TV magazine writer.

Our magazine spotted Kagawa a few days before the announcement. On a night in mid-November, he appeared at the Shinkansen ticket gate at Shinagawa Station. Dressed in a black suit and gray tie, with slicked-back hair streaked with gray, he carried a backpack on his back. While he could have been mistaken for a businessman at first glance, his impeccable posture and intense gaze set him apart.

“On this day, Kagawa attended a press conference in Osaka as kabuki actor Ichikawa Chusha for the Risshun Kabuki Special Performance (February 1–16, 2025, at Osaka Shochikuza). This performance is part of the Osaka International Culture and Arts Project, aimed at introducing Osaka’s cultural arts to visitors from Japan and abroad during the 2025 Osaka/Kansai Expo. Kagawa expressed his determination, saying, ‘I want to do my best in kabuki to help build excitement for the event,’” the writer added.

“It’s fine for him to return to terrestrial TV, isn’t it?”

On this same day, Kagawa also made another major announcement. He revealed on his social media that he was stepping down as the representative and producer of Aranchione, the insect-themed clothing brand he established in 2018. Moving forward, he will continue his involvement as one of its ambassadors.

It turned out to be an incredibly busy day for Kagawa, but there were no signs of fatigue as he returned to Tokyo from Osaka, exuding energy and determination.

Regarding his drama comeback, many supportive comments flooded social media, such as:
“It’s fine for him to return to terrestrial TV now. I want to see more of Kagawa’s acting.”
“I want to watch Kagawa the insect expert on TV!”

Could stepping down from his role as representative and producer of the insect brand be a stepping stone toward fully resuming his acting career? Perhaps there’s even a chance of him making an early return to terrestrial TV next year. ──
