The suspect, who is said to have carried out the crime in a park located in a luxury residential area of Shibuya, is now under investigation.

“Are you okay?”

A man approached a young woman who was lying drunk on the street. The woman appeared to be unconscious. The man grabbed her arm, pretended to help her, and dragged her into a nearby park, where he sexually assaulted her.

The Shibuya Police Department of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested 27-year-old company employee Kei Izumi, a resident of Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, on November 26, on suspicion of non-consensual sexual assault. He is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s, referred to as Ms. A.

“The incident, for which Izumi was arrested, occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on October 23. It took place in the upscale residential area of Shoto, Shibuya. Ms. A, who had been drinking, fell on the street while returning home. Izumi happened to pass by on his bicycle and found her. He pretended to help her get up and dragged her into a nearby park.

Izumi allegedly took Ms. A to a secluded area, where he forced himself on her. According to the police, he pinned her down, touched her chest, and inserted his hand into her underwear over the course of several minutes. When Ms. A screamed, ‘Stop it!’ Izumi fled the scene on his bicycle. The two had no prior acquaintance,” said a reporter from a national newspaper’s social affairs department.

“I don’t remember the location.”

After the incident, Ms. A consulted the police. Based on footage from nearby security cameras, Kei Izumi’s involvement was revealed. During his interrogation, he reportedly made the following statement:

“(Ms. A) was my type. It’s true that I committed an obscene act, but I don’t remember the location.”

A photographer from this publication captured images of Izumi being sent to court on November 26. Unfazed by the gathered press, he stared straight ahead, showing no signs of remorse as he entered the transport vehicle.

“This is not the first time Izumi has been arrested. He has already been indicted for a similar incident on a street in Tokyo. It’s possible he was prowling the area looking for a female target,” said the reporter.

The police are continuing their investigation into other potential crimes committed by Izumi.
