First Gravure After Marriage and Childbirth: Why Dempagumi.inc’s Mirin Furukawa Took on Bold Shots

An active idol and mother of one

When I got the offer from FRIDAY to do a full-fledged photogravure, I thought, ‘Are you insane? I’ve been an idol for 16 years, but today’s shoot was something I’ve never experienced before.

Mirin-chan” took on the challenge of her first full-fledged photogravure. The photographer was Taguchi Maki, who has photographed the jacket of the 5th single “Kira Kira Tune. A digital photo book is scheduled to be released after the ending, but FRIDAY Subs is showing some of the shots in advance.

We asked her what she was thinking when she took the photos.

I was honestly surprised when I received the offer. I didn’t even know if there would be demand for it. Inc. will be coming to an end next year, I want to be active without regrets. Inc. will be coming to an end next year, I want to do my activities with no regrets. I decided to do it.

In 1919, she announced her marriage to Shuichi Aso, a manga artist known for “Saiki Kusuo no Ψ難” and other works, and in 2009 she gave birth to her first child. Mirin-chan” has been on her own unique path, being a mother of one child while still being an active idol.

She is also married, so I was worried that the theme would be something like “Married Woman in the Afternoon” (laughs). (Laughs.) I had never done a “direct gravure” shoot in swimwear or lingerie before, so this was a completely new challenge for me.

Known as a gamer idol, “Mirin-chan” has stated that she would like to “unlock” various achievements as she moves toward the end of her career. For example, in September, she held her first solo live performance, and this time she “unlocked” her “achievement” of FRIDAY-style sexy photogravure.

She said, “It was completely different from my previous photo shoots as an idol. I was told that I would be photographed from this angle and that I would not normally be photographed in this pose, and I discovered that I look like this. It was full of surprises, and I feel like I gained a lot of experience.

What kind of preparations did she make for the shoot?

I’m sorry to be so rudimentary, but I decided to lose some weight (laughs). I sealed off my favorite ramen and stopped eating anything at night once and for all.

In the first place, I basically can’t go to a ramen restaurant when I have children. But about the day before yesterday, I had some alone time and wanted to go, but this one bowl of ramen would destroy everything I had built up! I weighed that against …… and decided not to go!　I decided to hold off.

She also studied “gravure poses.

I looked at pictures of Enako and Ummi Shinonome and studied them. I saw her commenting, ‘Squashing the hips makes the waist look thinner,’ and I thought, ‘I see! I used it as a reference.
