Suspect allegedly broke into a female subordinate’s room.

“I searched to take photos of underwear, but I had no intention of stealing them.”

In response to police questioning, the man reportedly made this statement, denying part of the charges.

On November 19, the Shibuya Police Department of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested Tomohiro Suzuki (55), a Nissan employee living in Ebina City, Kanagawa Prefecture, on suspicion of breaking and entering and attempted theft. On the evening of November 15, Suzuki allegedly entered the apartment of a woman in her 30s, referred to as A, who lives in a building in Yamato City, Kanagawa, and attempted to steal her underwear.

“A is a subordinate of Suzuki at the same Nissan workplace. Suzuki is accused of taking A’s apartment key from her bag, secretly making a spare key, and using it to enter her room. According to the investigation, Suzuki made the following statements: ‘I made the spare key in June and have entered her room over 40 times, looking at her underwear. I had feelings for her.’

The crimes appear to have occurred while A was at work. Small cameras were also reportedly found in her bathroom and kitchen. Police suspect Suzuki may have been involved in voyeurism and are continuing the investigation under charges of violating the law against photographing sexual acts.” (Reporter from the social affairs department of a national newspaper)

Having a liking for the girl, he had been following her for some time.

The incident was revealed in an unexpected way. Suzuki was under investigation by the police for allegedly secretly filming another woman in Shibuya’s Center-gai. Upon questioning, police examined his smartphone and found videos of A, the woman from Yamato City.

Our photographer captured the moment of Suzuki’s transfer on November 19, right after his arrest. In the back seat of the police transport vehicle, Suzuki, with white hair, was seen slumping and looking disheveled.

Trouble involving intrusions into women’s homes has been continuing. Below are recent significant incidents:

In May 2024, a man in his 40s was arrested on charges of non-consensual sexual acts. The man entered the ground-floor apartment of a woman in her 20s through an unlocked front door early in the morning. He allegedly threatened her by saying, “If you call the police, I’ll expose these pictures!” and performed indecent acts after pushing her onto the bed. The man had been stalking the woman because he had feelings for her.

In July 2024, a man in his 30s was arrested on charges of robbery causing injury and breaking and entering. The man broke a window with a hammer and entered an apartment of a woman in her 20s. He ransacked the room, attempting to steal several thousand yen, but was confronted by the woman when she returned home. He strangled her, causing injuries that required about 10 days to heal. Despite the assault, the woman managed to convince the man to leave, and after he did, she called 110, which led to the discovery of the incident.

While it is essential to securely lock windows and doors, women living alone should also consider installing home security systems that alert security personnel in case of unusual activity.

It appears that he was rummaging through the underwear of a female subordinate.
He denied some of the charges when questioned by the police.
He was slumped over in the convoy.
