<p> The &#8220;Moriya GT Grand Prix&#8221; was held for the fourth time this year on October 5.</p>
<p> This event, which started in 2010 as an exhibition at a commercial facility in Moriya City, Ibaraki Prefecture, has expanded to the point where about 20 supercars, including Lamborghinis and Ferraris, can now drive on the closed-off public road in front of Moriya Station. The ultimate goal of &#8220;Moriya GT&#8221; is to hold Japan&#8217;s first GT race on public roads in front of Moriya Station.</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> The event has been very successful as one of the main contents of the &#8220;Moriya City Commerce and Industry Festival,&#8221; with more than 40,000 visitors in total. Last year, for the first time, the race was held on a closed public road, and it took a lot of time to inform, persuade, and cooperate with Moriya City and neighboring residents.</span></p>

<p> The public road race that &#8220;Moriya GT&#8221; aims for is an international race officially recognized by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l&#8217;Automobile), the same as F1. At least 500 million yen will be needed to cover the total cost of application, operation, security, public relations, and so on. In March this year, the SRO, an international race governing body from the U.K., visited Moriya City and conducted a site survey, making the idea of holding the race within FY2013 a reality. The support of the Moriya City Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Moriya Industrial Park is also encouraging.</p>
<p> The event is also known as a glamorous event with some of the best race queens in Japan. This year again, dozens of queens in colorful costumes enlivened the Moriya GT. Miku Ando, one of the race queens who participated in the event, said, &#8220;The scale of the event is much bigger than last year,</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> The scale of this year&#8217;s event was much larger than last year&#8217;s, and many people came not only from their hometowns but also from all over Japan, so I could really feel the enthusiasm of the event!　Personally, it has been a year since I came to Tokyo to become a race attendant (formerly race queen). I am very grateful that I was able to make my long-awaited GT debut at the &#8220;Moriya GT&#8221; where many prestigious supercars gathered. I also received a lot of congratulations!&#8221;</span></p>

<p> In Japan, FIA-certified motorsports on public roads have been held in rallies such as the WRC, but there has never been a race with GT cars competing in the GT300 and other categories.
