Hundreds of sea lions are relaxing on San Carlos Beach. Due to the law, they cannot be chased away, leading to a temporary closure of the beach.

A perfect spot to relax.

A large group of sea lions has taken over the beach in a graceful manner!

In late August, hundreds of sea lions appeared at the popular San Carlos Beach in Monterey, California. A local marine biologist explains, “This place is their ‘favorite’.”

“The area around the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, with its abundant food, is a perfect resting spot,” says the biologist.

Their stay is expected to last about three weeks, but the city humorously responded to inquiries with, “Just ask the sea lions.” Chasing them away would violate the U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act, so the beach is currently closed.

Ignoring human convenience, the sea lions’ vacation seems likely to continue a bit longer.

While their playful antics are charming, some tourists have complained about the noise.
