Ueda Shinya Faces Mixed Reactions Despite Being a Better Host Than Tetsuko on 24 Hour TV
Every year, there are voices of criticism and discussions about the nature of the program, but this year, Nippon Television’s “24-Hour Television” has concluded without incident. There were mixed opinions about the participants, including Ueda Shinya (54) from the comedy duo “Kirin,” who served as the main host.
Talent comparable to the young Tetsuko Kuroyanagi.
On the internet, there were many praises such as, “As expected, their MC skills were impressive,” but there were also criticisms like, “They were loud from start to finish,” and “They were overly intrusive and not suited for the role.”
The overall hosting of the program has been carried out by former Johnny’s talent for many years. However, it was anticipated that they would not be selected this year due to the “Johnny’s issue.”
However, since the agency has now been rebranded as “STARTO ENTERTAINMENT” and there were no complaints from viewers, it seems that initially, Nippon Television intended to continue with former Johnny’s talents.
“However, it seems that STARTO Entertainment declined the offer. There have been increasing criticisms of the program each year, such as the embezzlement of donations by employees of Nippon Television’s affiliated stations and concerns about large fees being paid to participants despite it being a charity event. As a result, no talent was willing to take on the role of overall host, as they were unsure of the backlash they might face.” (said an executive from a major talent agency)
For different reasons, it ultimately meant that Johnny’s former talents did not take on the role, and Ueda was selected instead.
“There are many voices in the industry praising him as the most skilled ‘host’ among talents, with comparisons made to the young Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. His mental strength also led to the decision that ‘he is the only one’ for this role.
He has appeared in numerous Nippon Television programs in the past and present and currently holds three regular spots. His contributions to Nippon Television are significant, and he feels a sense of gratitude toward the network. This is why he stepped up for Nippon Television.” (the talent agency executive stated)
Ueda is highly regarded for his character and personality.
He is not just skilled at hosting; Ueda’s potential as a master of ceremonies is widely recognized, with many saying that no one among comedians surpasses him.
“He handles everything skillfully, whether it’s serious or lighthearted. His true strengths shine in variety shows like ‘Shabekuri 007’ (Nippon Television), but he is also adept at sports programs. It’s clear that he conducts thorough research on various sports. In ‘Oshare Izumu’ (Nippon Television), where he previously served as MC, he was excellent at drawing out conversations, and guests praised him, saying, ‘His teasing comes from a place of affection.’
Unfortunately, ‘Ueda Shinya’s Saturday Journal’ (TBS) was canceled, but he tackled social issues head-on. It’s said that the show was cut due to his criticisms of the government, yet his opinions were recognized as valid by political commentators. He doesn’t take a superficial approach; he studies seriously and is someone who expresses his views without hesitation.” (said a broadcasting writer)
Not only is his “hosting ability” highly praised, but his character is also held in high regard.
“Because of this, there was significant expectation that he could turn around the criticized ’24-Hour Television.’ However, it may not have been entirely suited for him. Nonetheless, overall, he managed the program well, and internally at Nippon Television, it was rated as acceptable.
As a result, Ueda is likely to continue as host next year. Knowing him, I believe he will take the criticisms to heart and make the necessary adjustments.” (broadcasting writer)
Of course, this depends on whether ’24-Hour Television’ will air next year.
