Ken Watanabe and his wife Nozomi Sasaki have caused a stir again with the “unpaid earrings” scandal.

Nozomi Sasaki had not paid for the jewelry she ordered.

The report said something along those lines,

“What an outrageous couple!”

Many people may have thought, “What an outrageous couple.

The ostentatious title “Jewelry Craftsman Accuses Nozomi Sasaki and Mr. and Mrs. Watanabe of Failure to Pay 400,000 Yen for Birthstone Pierced Earrings”

The title of the August 21 issue of Shukan Bunshun danced with the ostentatious title, “Jewelry Craftsman Accuses Nozomi Sasaki and Watabe of Failure to Pay 400,000 Yen for Birthstone Piercing.

Sasaki gave birth to her second child in April 2011, and in September of the same year, she asked jewelry designer A, who lives in Nagano, to create an accessory to commemorate the birth of her second child. It is so-called custom-made jewelry.

To Sasaki.

I don’t care what your budget is.

Mr. A immediately went to a specialty store and purchased the birthstones to make the jewelry. The next time he met with the couple, he gave them an estimate of 500,000 yen.

He said, “That’s too expensive!

When they met again in May of this year, the budget was finally set at 400,000 yen.

This is where the “commotion” began.

Mr. A explained to Sasaki that he had originally requested payment by the end of May, saying that he would begin design and production only after receiving the deposit.

The “Bunshun” article states that he had “given up on her,” but Mr. A finally “snapped” and refused to produce the jewelry, demanding a cancellation fee of 160,000 yen and a design drawing fee of 500,000 yen, for a total of 660,000 yen.

Sasaki apologized to Mr. A by e-mail, and the 660,000 yen was immediately transferred to his account.

I don’t think I am the only one who read this article all the way through and was not convinced or refreshed.

“Did Sasaki do something so bad that he is being slammed? ……”

The question is, “What did Sasaki do wrong?

I think Mr. A is right to be upset. Sasaki had previously commissioned Mr. A to make a ring for him, and had a “record” of late payment.

This time, however, Mr. A refused to produce the ring, and Sasaki did not receive the product. And he paid 220,000 yen more than the 400,000 yen for the product. That settles the case.

Just by reading the title of the article, one could be forgiven for assuming that Sasaki had received the product but “overstepped his bounds” or “failed to pay” for it, but this is not the case. In fact, this is not the case.

Although Sasaki was “negligent” in being late in making the payment, it does not appear that he had any malicious intent, and it is doubtful that he would have been accused by a weekly magazine.

However, what this incident has revealed is Sasaki’s “sloppiness” and the couple’s “celebrity-like” attitude.

Sasaki has given Mr. A the excuse that the reason for the delay is that she is “busy with work,” which is probably true. However, if she could not do it herself, she would have asked her husband to do it, or if her husband was also busy, there would have been a manager or someone else she could have asked to make the transfers.

Another point is that Mr. A knew the “terms and conditions” for undertaking the work, but ignored them. A senior executive at a major entertainment company said, “He knew the terms and conditions of the contract, but ignored them,

“Since we were dealing with an individual and not a company or a major store, and since we had previously requested work from him, I think he felt that since he was an acquaintance and we were celebrities, we could be accommodating. I think celebrities and famous people more or less have that kind of feeling, and it is a world where it is accepted. From the point of view of ordinary people, though, it is clearly “conceit. ……” (a major entertainment executive)

(A senior executive of a major entertainment company).

However, it was Watabe’s LINE that further aggravated Mr. A’s feelings and led to the accusation.

If he had simply apologized for the delay in making the payment and that he had already made the transfer, the problem would not have escalated. But Watabe,

《Is this the end of everything? Are there still lingering grudges?

He sent the message, “Is this the end of everything?

Everyone would think that this was an unnecessary comment. This may have made the situation even more complicated. Mr. A must have been “ticked off.

The lessons learned from the incident have not been utilized at all. If Watabe had understood the women’s feelings and acted accordingly, there would not have been such a big uproar. The same is true this time.

If he had been more considerate of other people’s feelings, the trouble could have been prevented. I hope they have learned from this experience.
