Snow Man Fans Criticize Fuwa-chan’s Inappropriate Behavior
YouTuber comedian Fuwa-chan, who is facing the risk of being banned from the entertainment industry due to “offensive comments” directed at comedian Yasuko, is under scrutiny. After the controversy, past actions of Fuwa-chan are being revisited among Snow Man fans.
The incident that led to Fuwa-chan’s suspension was a post made on August 4 on X (formerly Twitter). On August 2, in the midst of the Paris Olympics, Yasuko posted, “Yasuko Olympics: You’re amazing just by being alive, so everyone wins!” (original text), to which Fuwa-chan responded with an inappropriate quoted comment, saying, “You’re not amazing, so please die. Eliminated in the preliminaries!”
“Fuwa-chan deleted the post and apologized on the night of the 4th, saying, ‘I’m truly sorry. This is not something I should be announcing here, but I said something I shouldn’t have and hurt people. I will apologize directly to the person involved.’ Negative reactions followed with comments like, ‘Did you mean to post that on a private account?’ ‘So you always say such things on a private account? That’s terrible.’ and ‘I’m completely disgusted,’ leading to a big commotion.” (Entertainment writer)
Amidst the criticism directed at Fuwa-chan, some Snow Man fans on the internet recalled an incident from the special episode of “Sore Snow Man ni Yarasete Kudasai” (Let Snow Man Do It) aired on July 26 (TBS network). In this program, Snow Man member Ryohei Abe (30), Fuwa-chan, and former host turned entrepreneur ROLAND (32) traveled to the United States for a special shoot where they infiltrated normally restricted areas.
“During their visit to the Los Angeles Natural History Museum, one of the largest in America, a minor incident occurred. While the group was listening to valuable information from local staff in a facility dedicated to the study of dinosaurs and extinct animals, Abe suddenly interrupted the conversation with the staff, saying, ‘Excuse me, Fuwa! Don’t put your phone on the fossils!’ Abe is known for his gentle personality, so even though it was during a variety show shoot, this was an unusual display of sternness from him.” (according to the same source)
Fans of Snow Man, reflecting on the incident with Yasuko, expressed their strong opinions as follows:
“Fuwa-chan, when you went to the American museum with Abe and the others on ‘Sore Snow Man,’ you boldly placed your personal items on valuable fossils. It was refreshing to see Abe get genuinely angry. He was scary at that time, but it was totally deserved.”
“That person often interacts with Snow Man, but from the recent comments to placing a smartphone on valuable fossils at the museum and getting scolded by Abe, I really can’t accept it. I wish they wouldn’t be involved with Snow Man.”
“Seeing how Abe properly reprimanded Fuwa-chan on ‘Sore Snow Man,’ I really appreciate it now. Abe is amazing as always.”
“That person was reprimanded by Abe on ‘Sore Snow Man,’ right? I hope they never appear together again.”
On September 7, a special program titled “Ariyoshi’s Summer Vacation 2024: 77 Hours in Hawaii,” featuring Snow Man’s Fukazawa Tatsuya (32) and Fuwa-chan, is scheduled to air. However, fans are concerned that the program might be shelved due to the controversy surrounding Fuwa-chan.
“On August 11, Fuwa-chan updated her X account to apologize once again for the offensive remarks and announced a temporary break from her entertainment activities. As of August 27, Fuwa-chan’s name and photos are still listed on the official website for ‘Ariyoshi’s Summer Vacation 2024.’ Although there were points of contention in Fuwa-chan’s actions, she did not commit a serious crime, so it’s likely the show will air as planned.” (noted the source)
As time passes, it remains to be seen whether Fuwa-chan will have a place in the Japanese entertainment industry upon her return.
