&#8220;Why is there a camera in a place like this?&#8221;
The student consulted with a teacher. The vice principal, upon receiving the report, called 110 and requested an investigation. When the police analyzed the camera, they found dozens of secretly recorded videos of female students.
On August 26, the Omiya Police Station in Saitama Prefecture arrested 36-year-old high school teacher Ayato Suzuki from Saitama City on suspicion of building trespass and violation of the Act on Punishment of Acts Relating to Sexual Behavior (filming). Suzuki is accused of installing a small camera in the school building where he works and secretly filming female students.
“The incident for which the suspect was arrested occurred on August 17. Suzuki is alleged to have taken a key from the school&#8217;s key box just before 4 p.m. and entered the changing room of the women&#8217;s bathhouse in the dormitory to set up the camera. It is said that he filmed several teenage female students changing between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
The following day, August 18, a female student who was cleaning discovered the small camera on the floor by chance. When the school reported it to the police, dozens of secretly filmed videos of female students, recorded on different days, were found on the SD card. Identifying the camera’s owner led to the revelation of Suzuki’s involvement in the crime.”

<h2>Continuously covering his face with both hands.</h2>
During his transfer to the prosecutor&#8217;s office on August 27, Suzuki was photographed by a Friday cameraman. Throughout the process, Suzuki covered his face with both hands while seated in the back seat of the police vehicle.
In response to the investigation, Suzuki reportedly gave an astonishing motive for his crimes.
“There is no mistake that I entered the girls’ changing room without permission and set up the camera. I set up the camera because I wanted to see the girls naked.”
In August of last year, it was revealed that a former instructor at a major middle school preparatory school had secretly filmed multiple female students, which became a social issue after it was spread on social media.
“The ‘Children and Families Agency’ has decided to start a Japanese version of the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) by the end of 2026. This will require businesses to check for sexual crime histories for people working with children, representing a step forward in preventing sexual crimes against children. However, this requirement will only apply to public institutions like schools and kindergartens, while private institutions such as cram schools and babysitters will remain voluntary, leaving many points open for discussion,” said the aforementioned reporter.
The police are continuing their investigation, believing that Suzuki may have other offenses.
