TV Personality and Shark Enthusiast Accused of Filming Female Student in Alma Mater’s Bathroom
A man in a mask emerged from the police station with a downcast look on his face. The man, whom this magazine’s photographer photographed being sent to the police station, did not have the glamorous aura of a man who once appeared on a TV program.
On August 14, the Takanawa Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Sakuya Toyoda, 22, an unemployed man living in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, on suspicion of voyeurism. Around 4:00 p.m. that evening, the suspect allegedly entered the campus of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) in Minato Ward, Tokyo, and attempted to voyeuristically film female students in the restroom.
Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology is the suspect’s alma mater. He just graduated from the university in March of this year. It is the only national university in Japan that specializes in marine-related studies and has produced many fishery-related executives and scholars.
The suspect, Toyoda, had just graduated and was probably well aware of the structure of his alma mater. He entered the campus, held up a smartphone over a private restroom, and attempted to spy on a female student inside. A female student found the smartphone pointed at her. She chased and caught the suspect, and the incident was discovered.
I wanted to enjoy the thrill.”
Toyoda admitted to the police that he committed the crime, saying, “I wanted to enjoy the thrill.
I wanted to enjoy the thrill.
Toyoda’s career had been spectacular since his high school days.
He was a student at a prestigious private high school in Setagaya Ward. He was a member of the biology club and won a famous academic award for joint research with other students. He became an unrivaled shark lover after attending a camp organized by a journalist who was knowledgeable about fish.
In April ’19, he appeared on a commercial variety show as “Shark Mania. He became popular for his light-hearted delivery of such phrases as “Yoro Shark, please. He introduced that he had made as many as 300 shark specimens using his bathtub and other facilities at home. He has been popular with women since his high school days and had a girlfriend at the time of his appearance on the variety show.
Did Toyoda want to “enjoy the thrill” of his career, even to the point of throwing away his glamorous career? The police are also investigating his other crimes.
