Around 2 p.m. on July 28, a group of men in white dress shirts and black pants moved through Tokyo Station, which was bustling with summer tourists. Among them, the man at the center, wearing sunglasses and a displeased expression, was Noel Gallagher of the former band Oasis.

“Noel performed in Japan for the first time in about four and a half years last December, and this visit is his first since then. As the headliner for the final day of the ‘FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’24,’ which took place from July 26 to 28, he closed the festival with his solo project, Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds.” (said a music magazine editor)

On the day of the event, Noel’s performance was scheduled for 9 p.m. at Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata Prefecture. Given that he was still at Tokyo Station at 2 p.m. and surrounded by a “daimyo procession,” it suggests that he arrived at the venue with ample time to spare, akin to a “presidential arrival.”

During the concert, Noel began with solo tracks, then transitioned to Oasis songs in the latter half. In the encore, he performed three songs: “Stand by Me,” “Live Forever,” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” delivering a spectacular performance that had the audience singing along. Fans who watched the show either at the venue or via streaming took to social media to comment, saying things like, “The latter part of the setlist was clearly for Japanese fans. Noel might have a tough demeanor, but he’s really kind to his fans,” and “His tough attitude is just a style; he’s actually a nice guy. Liam might even join him if he asked now.”

“Oasis is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, but the rift between Noel and his brother Liam Gallagher continues. However, recent interviews have shown both of them joking and smiling when asked about a possible reunion, indicating a willingness to bridge the gap. Many insiders believe ‘hope is not lost’ for a reunion.” (said the editor)

Japanese fans also remain hopeful for an Oasis reunion tour in Japan.
