Maki Sakai, who has shown overwhelming acting ability in dramas and on stage

Maki Sakai’s performance as a paralyzed mother has become a topic of conversation in the drama series “Kazoku Dake Dakara Aiita Dakara” starring Yumi Kawai, which aired last year on NHK’s BS Premium and received high acclaim, including a Galaxy Award.

In the drama “Seasonless Town” (TV Tokyo) broadcast in the April season, she also plays a mother who dotes on her son, played by Taiga Nakano, and she shines as a “realistic and slightly scary mother”.

When one thinks of “Re-House Girl,” Rie Miyazawa immediately comes to mind, but few people know that Sakai was actually the fourth Re-House Girl. That was 34 years ago, in 1990. Sakai was still a junior college student at the time.

Two years later, she made her acting debut in a drama series, and since then she has appeared in more than 80 dramas and 50 movies. In both dramas and films, he has been able to play both serious and comical roles in both modern and historical dramas, and his range of acting is well documented.

When I heard that Sakai would be appearing in the play “Memories of the Edo Period,” directed by the genius Keralino Sandorovich and presented by the theater company “Nylon 100°C,” I immediately went to see the play.

Totally different characters and gags shown in the three roles on stage.

I’ll spare you the details, but in conclusion, I don’t know how to describe it; it was a mind-boggling stage performance. All the foreshadowing was recovered at the very end, but until that point, the “? It was full of nonsense gags. It was a “stomach-churning” stage, full of nonsense gags, where every single line of dialogue was a gag, and it was like a series of skits that made me not only sick to my stomach, but also made it difficult to breathe.

The cast included well-known actors from TV dramas such as Hiroki Miyake, Minosuke, Rie Minemura, and Koji Okura, and the laughter that erupted from the audience was unfathomable as they performed their gags with the utmost seriousness. Sakai, too, was getting laughs with her performance, but she was very different from the other actors. That is …….

In fact, the play was in the form of an omnibus, with some of the actors playing multiple roles. Sakai also played three roles: a musical actress, the sister of a “buttock samurai” whose face is a buttock, and a plague-stricken Edo period village girl. I could easily recognize the other actors, even though they changed roles, but I could not recognize Sakai at all. Perhaps it was a problem with my eyes, but I did not recognize Sakai as the musical actress who played the role at the beginning of the show, which drew a lot of laughter, and I kept looking for her at …….

I didn’t recognize her when she played the sister of a samurai, a role that included some heart-warming scenes amidst the laughter, and I finally recognized her when she played the village girl, a character who was also a bit of a psychopath, but at the curtain call she was back in the musical actress’s role and I wondered why Sakai was not there. I was so surprised that Sakai was not there. It may be that the characters she played were too different from each other, but I realized that Sakai is truly a “chameleon actress” and that her acting ability is truly outstanding.

Sakai is now known as an actor with a strong acting style and personality, but in fact, she has always been said to have a sense of humor that surpasses that of a comedian.

He participated as a regular on the legendary variety show “Kokorikomi Miracle Type,” which aired on Fuji Television from 2001, from its inception. In the program, comedy acts were performed on the theme of various characters and situations, and Kokoriko acted as the host and facilitator of the talk sessions with guests and other regular members.

Sakai-san played a variety of characters such as ‘blood type judging woman,’ ‘backstabbing woman,’ ‘too much mouthy has-been woman,’ ‘loser woman,’ and ‘woman who is strict about laughter,’ and became an indispensable signature actress on the show along with Matsushita Yuki and Konishi Manami,” (variety show writer).

From there, she further broke new ground in “Nonko, 36 (domestic help),” a film in which she starred in ’08.

She played the role of a divorced former entertainer who returns to her parents’ home and lives without any particular job. In this movie, she played a fully nude love scene for the first time, and her interactions with Gen Hoshino and Shingo Tsurumi became the talk of the town. Her performance was highly acclaimed, winning first place in the top ten best Japanese films of 2008 in the movie magazine Eiga Geijutsu (Movie Arts).

She also won the 18th Japan Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the movie “Jitsuroku: Rengo Shokugun Asama Sanso e no Douken” (The United Red Army: Asama Sanso Escape),” making her a “force to be reckoned with” actress.

In her personal life, she married a photographer 10 years younger than herself in 2009 and gave birth to a baby girl at the age of 41. However, her husband’s infidelity was reported, and she announced her divorce in the summer of 2008. Sakai has custody of the child, but now that the child is older, she is more energetic than ever.

This year she has appeared in four films, including one that has already been released, in addition to dramas, and her momentum seems to be unstoppable.
