Movie Release Celebration Two Active Masked Rider Dark Heroines Unveil Dream Collaboration Gravure Again

Kanon Miyahara, who plays Clotho, the second daughter of the “Three Sisters of the Underworld” in “Masked Rider Gachado” (TV Asahi), which has been broadcast since last September, and Arisa Sakamaki, who plays Lachesis, the third daughter, make their debut in FRIDAY with a collaborative photogravure. They discussed secret episodes they can only share now and their experiences with the series.

Kanon Miyahara (hereafter Miyahara): It has been six months since my last photogravure, and it was a lot of fun! I’ve been working out a lot for this day, so please come and have a look!

Arisa Sakamaki (hereafter Sakamaki): We also did a pair shoot in swimsuits inspired by Clotho and Lachesis. There are many different sides of us compared to on TV, so please pick up a copy of FRIDAY!

――The show has been airing for about 10 months and is now reaching its climax. Could you tell us about your encounter with “Masked Rider Gatchard”?

Miyahara: I was directly approached by Director Tasaki for “Masked Rider Gatchard.” It was a while ago, but I had also appeared in “Masked Rider Amazons,” and Director Tasaki was the director for that as well. He remembered me and, fortunately, offered me the role of Clotho. I was really happy.

Sakamaki: I went through an audition for the role. Since I’m a huge fan of Kamen Rider and used to watch “Kamen Rider Den-O” and “Kamen Rider W” every week without fail, I think my passion for the audition was unmatched. I cried out of happiness the moment I received the news of my acceptance (laughs).

Miyahara: But during the audition, weren’t your socks torn?

Sakamaki: That’s a secret! Actually, I went to the “Masked Rider Gatchard” audition wearing torn socks. Since then, I’ve been wearing torn socks to auditions as a kind of good luck charm (laughs).

――Was there any difficulty in playing your character?

Miyahara: Clotho is a character who speaks her mind directly, with strong language and a very masculine personality. She’s a power-type with a martial arts background. There were really many intense action scenes, and it was quite challenging.

Sakamaki: Kanon’s action scenes were amazing! While filming on set, she absorbed everything so quickly and immediately delivered impressive performances.

Miyahara: That’s not true (laughs). Especially with shots that involve CGI, timing was difficult, and we had to do many takes. Thanks to the staff’s patience, I think we managed to achieve good movements.

――How about you, Sakamaki-san?

Sakamaki: Lachesis speaks in a “desuwa” tone and has a cute, frilly costume. She has a cool demeanor, but there are moments where her speech becomes more human and less formal, which was challenging in the acting. Since she fights using alchemy, coordinating with CGI was difficult, and while the action was more subdued compared to Kanon’s, it was still quite demanding.

――I think appearing in a beloved, cross-generational work was a turning point for both of you. How has the reaction been since your appearance?

Sakamaki: Previously, I was mostly approached by people of the same age group, but since appearing in the show, I’ve been approached by people of all ages, from parents to young children. I often hear “Oh, it’s Lachesis!” and sometimes parents and children will stop me while I’m walking in the city and say, “We watch it every week!” While I’m happy about this, I also feel a strong pressure to meet the viewers’ expectations.

Miyahara: In my case, it’s mostly friends and relatives’ children who are watching. They send me videos and photos saying “We’re watching!” and it makes me so happy that I end up giving them things like transformation belts as gifts. My family members keep asking for stuff (laughs).

Sakamaki: We end up spending quite a bit of our own money, don’t we? (laughs)

Miyahara: Yes, we do. But when I hear “Thank you, Clotho’s older sister,” it makes me really happy. I’m glad I could play a role that touches the hearts of viewers. That’s why I end up buying and giving away merchandise out of my own pocket (laughs).

――Finally, please give us a comment about the movie “Masked Rider Gatchard: The Future Daybreak.”

Sakamaki: I think we were able to show new expressions that everyone hasn’t seen before. During the voice recording, Junsei (played by Houtarou Ichinose, portrayed by Junsei Motojima) said, “This is amazing, it’s going to be electrifying,” so I’m confident (laughs)!

Miyahara: You’re really putting it out there (laughs).

Sakamaki: I’m extremely confident!

Miyahara: As Arisa (Sakamaki) said, I’m confident too! It’s a movie that I can proudly say is excellent, so please make sure to go to the theater.

Sakamaki: I feel the same way. I hope you’ll enjoy it in the theater!

As an actress, she is active in films, stage performances, TV dramas, and commercials. Last year, she also made her debut as a singer with a release of her debut single. Her special skills include singing and English. She plays Lachesis, the third daughter of the “Three Sisters of the Underworld.”
