Some enthusiasts are now paying attention to ‘shops that are not brothels’ (photo is for illustration).

As reported in the article ‘Masked Brothels: Radical Service Information of Surprising ‘Not Just Regular Massage’ Services Spreading Online,’ distributed by ‘FRIDAY Digital’ on June 7th, despite originally being shops that offer services completely unrelated to brothels, ‘masked brothels’ inexplicably offer extreme options. As detailed later, some operate due to individuals seeking extra cash, while others market themselves on the grey area of not being ‘brothels.’ Currently, information about such establishments continues to circulate online, garnering particular interest from certain enthusiasts.

We interviewed A, a company employee with 30 years of experience in the sex industry, about why information on secretly offering extreme services establishments is now so prevalent and why these places are popular among some users who are into masked brothels.

“I don’t really go to regular brothels anymore. They’re just not interesting. I mean, brothels are supposed to have hand jobs or intercourse, right? The girls working there are also jaded, so there’s no excitement or surprises anymore.”

A-san proudly explains. Recently, he often visits men’s esthetic and other establishments where there is a rise in extreme service information rather than ordinary sex industry shops.

Since the start of the Corona crisis, the number of women involved in the sex industry for financial reasons has increased significantly. However, the truth is that they would prefer not to work in the sex industry if possible. Despite being hard work, the rates are surprisingly low, and there is a lingering image of fear. For establishments, in the case of sex industry shops, if they want to open a new shop, they must operate based on the Delivery Health Business Law, and they cannot operate services with a physical store. Furthermore, there are costs and effort involved in transporting women. It is easier to start and cost-effective to operate as a healthy shop where individuals can operate as independent contractors, rather than operate under the strict regulations of Delivery Health.

“Recently, men’s esthetic services have been quite popular, haven’t they? Officially, they’re not considered part of the sex industry, and unlike traditional sex services, they command higher rates and attract a significantly better clientele, so girls are flocking to them. Plus, there are many girls who are not yet worn out. Also, it’s nice that they operate in a regular apartment room. It’s not just about saving on hotel costs; it’s about experiencing something extraordinary in everyday life. But there are just too many of these establishments now. Especially in the greater Tokyo area, it’s saturated. Enthusiasts like us are starting to get bored.”

So, what kind of establishments are you currently interested in?

“That’s what I call a genuine healthy shop. Men’s esthetic services have become too well-known and practically considered part of the sex industry, so they’re not ideal. But if there’s extreme service offered at places like chiropractors or beauty salons, that really gets me excited.”

In an article released on June 7th, it was mentioned that information about places offering extreme services can be found on internet bulletin boards, information trading sites, and underground sex industry-related YouTube channels. However, in A-san’s case, he obtains information primarily from information trading sites focused on men’s esthetic services. From there, A-san shared details about a normal shop with me.

“What kind of shop do you think it is? It’s a head spa. Typically, head spas target women, right? But this place specializes in head spas for men. Here, by adding a certain special option, you can receive extreme services.”

On the shop’s website, it advertised itself as offering services specialized for men. While regular head spas might not seem gender-specific, seeing specialized for men could inadvertently raise unusual expectations. Additionally, there were photos of female staff who provide services, and the website’s design closely resembles that of men’s esthetic sites.

Most likely, it’s a head spa tailored for men, where services are provided by female staff. The practice of targeting men and setting higher fees than usual aligns with the approach of healthy shops in men’s esthetics. However, if they offer illegal extreme services like some men’s esthetic places, there’s a real possibility they could face crackdowns similar to those faced by others in the industry.

In the paid version of “FRIDAY GOLD,” they conducted an undercover report on this head spa, detailing specifics about the shop, the actual treatment procedures, and whether the “special options” were indeed offered.
