37-Year-Old Chinese Student Stabs Man in His Twenties Multiple Times on a Bus

The incident occurred just after the bus departed from the terminal near JR Takanawa Gateway Station. The suspect, a 37-year-old Chinese graduate student living in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, allegedly spotted an acquaintance sitting in front of him on the bus. Suddenly, he stabbed the man in the neck, abdomen, and other places five times with a knife.

 

On June 14th, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s Takanawa Police Station arrested the suspect, Zhang Yinying, on suspicion of attempted murder. Our magazine’s photographer captured the scene as Jian was being taken into custody. There was no apparent sign of remorse as he boarded the transport vehicle with a straight face. 

“The incident occurred around 5:30 PM the same evening in Konan, Minato Ward, Tokyo. It took place inside a moving bus used for transporting employees and part-time workers of a logistics company. Prior to the incident, the suspect, Jian, a Chinese national, had been arguing with the victim, Mr. A.

Inside the bus, Jian found Mr. A and attacked him with a 15cm knife. The bus driver, noticing the commotion, immediately reported to the police that ‘a man had stabbed someone with a knife inside the bus,’ prompting a swift response. Jian was arrested at the scene by arriving police officers.”(National newspaper social affairs reporter)

At the time of the incident, there were about 30 passengers on the bus, but no one else was injured. Mr. A was promptly taken to the hospital, where it was reported that his injuries were not life-threatening. Both Jian and Mr. A are believed to be international students and were working part-time for the logistics company that operated the bus.

Zhang the suspect reportedly stated his motive after the arrest:

 

“There is no mistake that I tried to kill (Mr. A). I stabbed him with the knife I had. I couldn’t forgive his bad attitude towards me.”

 

Police are investigating the incident further, suspecting there was a financial dispute between Jian and Mr. A.
