The suspect, Tsutomu Watanabe, 50, a gang leader affiliated with the designated gang “Kanto Sekine-gumi,” was sent to the police station on the morning of April 10. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Anti-Gang Division arrested Watanabe on suspicion of confining the man. The suspect has admitted to the investigation, saying, “There is no doubt about it.

The alleged trouble occurred on March 15. The victim was a man in his 50s, Mr. A. Mr. A demanded repayment (several million yen) to a gang member who had caused an accident with a car he had rented more than 20 years ago. He and the suspect, Watanabe, had been discussing the matter at a coffee shop in Kabukicho, Shinjuku Ward.

Mr. A was taken away by car and abducted to a union office in an apartment building in Shibuya Ward, where he was held for eight days until March 22.

(A reporter from a national newspaper) “Mr. A was beaten and otherwise assaulted at the gang’s office.

According to the police, the details of the confinement were horrifying: Mr. A’s hands and feet were tied with cable ties and he was locked in a room in the office. After that, he was left in a storage room on the balcony. A resident of a neighboring room called 110 for help, and the incident was discovered.

The police raided two locations, including the union office, and the full extent of the incident came to light. Fortunately, Mr. A is said to be in stable condition.

In the transfer vehicle, his eyes were closed the entire time.
