A Former Yotsuya Otsuka Instructor Who Took Voyeuristic Pictures of His Student

“He took advantage of his position as an instructor and repeatedly filmed the victim, taking advantage of her lack of caution. This is an extremely dangerous crime that violates the sexual freedom of the victims.”

The judge harshly criticized the behavior of the man who is alleged to have voyeuristically photographed 12 of his students.

 On March 26, the Tokyo District Court (Judge Masakazu Kamakura) sentenced Takahiro Mori, 25, to two years in prison, suspended for five years with probation, on charges including violation of the Law for Punishing the Taking of Sexual Desire Photographs. Mori is a former instructor at Yotsuya Otsuka, a major junior high school entrance exam cram school. He is alleged to have taken advantage of his position as a teacher to film girls in their underwear in the classroom and other places.

“Between March and August 2023, the defendant is alleged to have photographed the underwear of 12 of his female students with a smartphone. He also sent the names and addresses of the girls who had been victimized from the school’s personal information database, as well as voyeuristic images, to a group chat room of his acquaintances. On the other hand, the court took into consideration the fact that Mori has no criminal record. The court, on the other hand, considered that Mori had no previous criminal record, and since he was undergoing treatment for sex addiction, the court suspended his sentence with probation.”

On a day when there was no class, the man called the girls’ parents to tell them this. When the girls came to class, he made them sit on the floor so that he could see their underwear, and took pictures of them with a smartphone in his breast pocket. He forced her to make obscene remarks.

On August 19 of last year, the Juvenile Development Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Mori, a former Yotsuya Otsuka instructor, on suspicion of coercion and violation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance on Prevention of Nuisance. Mori is said to have voyeuristically photographed an elementary school girl (9 at the time) at the school building in Tokyo where he worked. He told the police, “I did it to satisfy my sexual desire.” He denied some of the charges, saying he did not intend to threaten or harm the girl.

The alleged incident occurred in May. In the classroom, he allegedly told the girl that if she did not study, he would punish her, forcing her to stand on the floor so that her underwear was visible, and forced her to make the following obscene comments. He is said to have told the girls that they would be punished if they did not study hard, and that they would be naked and their butts would be penciled in.

Mori posted the videos he had taken on SNS group chats. Immediately after his arrest, he stated that he was filming for his own enjoyment, but later he said, “The purpose of the videos was to post them.

 

When the girl’s mother learned that her daughter’s name, address, and videos were exposed on a social networking service, she consulted the Metropolitan Police Department on August 4. Yotsuka Otsuka was contacted by the police and dismissed Mori on August 10. Yotsuka Otsuka posted an apology on its website. Yotsuka Otsuka announced on its website that it would take such measures as strictly prohibiting instructors and staff from bringing smartphones and other devices capable of taking pictures and videos into the classroom.

What kind of person is the arrested suspect, Mori?

He is an elite student who went to a very famous private university from a high school in Tokyo. He joined Yotsuya Otsuka as an employee in April 2022. He was usually quiet, and when we talked to him, he seemed quiet and reserved.

When questioned by the police, Mori explained that he also took spy photos of another student, a girl. In fact, obscene videos and images of several girls were found on Mori’s phone. The police believed that there were additional crimes and were investigating.

Mori, unable to restrain his own desires, trampled on the feelings of his students. No matter how much remorse he feels, he will never be able to completely heal the wounds in the hearts of the girls who were victims.
