Snuggled up to the corpse, looking up at the sky – the world cried at the “emotional scene” of a koala embracing a deceased female!
A video posted on social media by the Australian koala protection organization KOALA RESCUE Inc. brought tears to the eyes of the world.
In late February, the organization received a report that a pair of koalas had been found in the Adelaide Hills in southern Australia. When the staff arrived at the scene, the female koala had already died, and the male koala was nestled in her carcass.
The next moment, the male koala looked at the female koala, as if mourning her death, then looked up at the sky and lovingly hugged her corpse. The koala emitted a small cry of “coo,” and its eyes seemed to have tears in them.
When we inquired about the situation at the scene to the rescue group, we received the following response: “Basically, koalas act alone.
Koalas are generally solitary animals and do not mate, so this behavior is very unusual indeed. It is always heartbreaking to retrieve a deceased koala, and it was very painful to see the male koala in such grief.
In Australia, from ’19 to ’20, the largest-ever forest fires – known as “Black Summer” – killed about 40,000 koalas. Even today, koalas are threatened with extinction in several states.
The post received about 13,000 comments, with many expressing their feelings, such as, “At ease ……,” “Animals have feelings just like humans,” and “May the male koala be happy again.
The tears and genuine mourning for the death of the female koala touched many people.
