Former Yotsuya Otsuka Instructor Sneakily Photographed 12 Girls

He took pictures of 12 girls in their underwear in the school building and shared the images with his friends.

The trial of a former instructor who turned his students into objects of his desire concluded on March 11 at the Tokyo District Court. The prosecution sought two years in prison for Takahiro Mori, 25, a former employee of Yotsuya Otsuka, a major cram school for junior high school entrance examinations, who is accused of violating the Act on Punishment of Persons Who Take Photographs of Sexual Desire and the Personal Information Protection Law.

 “In court, the defendant Mori testified that he lacked the confidence not to act on children. Regarding the reason for sharing images, names, addresses, and other personal information of the girls in a group chat, he stated, ‘I got excited about fantasies of third parties towards familiar faces.’

 

The defense argued that Mori regrets his actions and is undergoing treatment for sexual addiction at a hospital, seeking a suspended sentence. On the other hand, the prosecution claimed, ‘He took advantage of the students’ trust, ignoring their dignity,’ asserting that the distorted desires constituted significantly malicious acts, and sought a two-year prison sentence.”

On a day when there was no class, the man called the girls’ parents to tell them this. When the girls came to his classroom, he made them sit in the gym so that their underwear could be seen, and took pictures of them with a smartphone in his breast pocket. He forced her to make obscene remarks.

On August 19 of last year, the Juvenile Development Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Mori, a former teacher at Yotsuya Otsuka, on suspicion of coercion and violation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance on Prevention of Nuisance. Mori is said to have voyeuristically photographed an elementary school girl (9 at the time) at the school building in Tokyo where he worked. He told the police, “I did it to satisfy my sexual desire. He denied some of the charges, saying he did not intend to threaten or harm the girl.”

“The incident that led to her arrest occurred in May. It is said that he told the girl that he would punish her if she didn’t study hard in the classroom and forced her to stand on the floor so that her underwear was visible, and forced her to make the following indecent remarks. Mori posted the videos he had taken on SNS group chats. Immediately after his arrest, he stated that he was filming for his own enjoyment. The mother of the girl learned that her daughter’s name, address, videos, and other information were being exposed on social media, and on August 4, she consulted with the Metropolitan Police Department. Upon receiving contact from the police, Yotsuya Otsuka terminated the defendant Mori’s employment on August 10. Yotsuya Otsuka published an apology on their website, announcing measures such as prohibiting the bringing of devices capable of photographing or filming, such as smartphones, into the classroom by instructors and staff.

What kind of person is the arrested suspect, Mori?

“He is an elite student who went to a very famous private university from a high school in Tokyo. He joined Yotsuya Otsuka as an employee in April 2022. He was usually quiet, and when we talked to him, he seemed quiet and reserved.

When questioned by the police, Mori explained that he also took spy photos of another student, a girl. In fact, obscene videos and images of several girls were found on Mori’s phone. The police believed that there were additional crimes and were investigating.”

Mori, unable to control his own desires, trampled on the feelings of his students. The verdict is scheduled to be handed down on March 26.
