<p><span class="strongInContent"> &#8220;While dating the victim, he also started a relationship with another woman. He decided to kill the victim because she was an obstacle to his relationship with her.</span></p>
<p> On February 27, the Tokyo District Court (Judge Ken Nomura) sentenced Kazuma Sato, 38, to 17 years in prison for the murder of his former girlfriend in June 2001. The deceased was Yukari Abe, who was 25 years old at the time.</p>

<p><span class="strongInContent"> The court speculated that the defendant Sato killed Ms. Abe by forcing her to take a large dose of a sleep-enhancing drug and compressing her neck. It was a premeditated crime, he said. The defense, on the other hand, argued that Mr. Abe himself may have taken the drugs himself and died, and pleaded not guilty.</span></p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> Sato was indicted in March &#8217;16. In July 2007, the Tokyo District Court sentenced him to 17 years in prison, but in December 2008, the Tokyo High Court ruled that there was a possibility of death by poisoning and sent the case back to the trial court.</span></p>
<p> In its July 17, 2003 issue, &#8220;FRIDAY&#8221; reported in detail on this mysterious murder case. We would like to recount the whole story of Sato&#8217;s sophistry in deceiving industry people and the crime (some parts have been corrected).</p>
<h2> Tangled Love Triangle as a Motive</h2>

<p> In the summer of 2001, Abe disappeared from his apartment in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, and his body was found in a cemetery in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. In June 2003, two years after her disappearance, Sato, a part-time store clerk living in Shibuya Ward, and a woman, A, living in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, were arrested on suspicion of abandoning a corpse. Ms. Abe was a single mother with a 7-year-old son at the time, but his whereabouts have also not been confirmed. What was the relationship between the two lovers at the time of Ms. Abe&#8217;s death and the disappearance of her eldest son?</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> In July 2001, Sato and A allegedly removed Abe&#8217;s body, wrapped in a blue sheet, from a one-room apartment in Setagaya Ward, where A was living at the time. There was a strange smell at the apartment where A lived at the same time, and the two misled the police officers who arrived at the scene, saying that their golden retriever had died and that they had wrapped the corpse in a sheet and buried it in a mountain in Machida City.</span></p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> In fact, however, Sato had Abe&#8217;s body kept in A&#8217;s apartment for more than a month, and it is believed that the two became man-woman friends during this period, but they never talked about what led to their meeting. Sato had also been romantically involved with Abe in the past, so we cannot rule out the possibility that a love triangle may have led to the incident,&#8221; said a reporter from the society section of a national newspaper.</span></p>
<p> Ms. Abe had a son with a man she married in her late teens, but they later divorced. Abe&#8217;s body had internal bleeding in the neck, and it is believed that she died of asphyxiation, but Sato denies any involvement. The arrest was triggered by a report filed by Abe&#8217;s relatives to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department at the end of 2002. The investigation into his friendships led to the emergence of Sato and the investigation into A, with whom he had a relationship.</p>

<p>Both Sato and A were born into wealthy families and were a couple of like-minded people with aspirations to work in the TV industry. Sato lived with his family in a mansion in one of the most exclusive and quiet residential areas in Shibuya Ward. A local real estate agent said, &#8220;The price for the land and the building together must be well over 200 million yen. A friend of Sato&#8217;s said, &#8220;He has been lying since high school.</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> He has been good at telling lies since high school,&#8221; said a friend of Sato&#8217;s. &#8220;He often told people around him that he had a part-time job at a commercial TV station. I&#8217;m working part-time at a commercial TV station, but it&#8217;s tough because of the entertainment and entertainment expenses,&#8221; and &#8220;Tomorrow I&#8217;m going to have dinner with a famous musician and take care of him.</span></p>

<p><span class="strongInContent"> When young girls would come up to him, he would pick them up by saying things like, &#8220;I&#8217;m from Keio University and I&#8217;m studying in graduate school. He worked part-time at a fashionable cafe, and his name plate read &#8216;MARO&#8217; in Roman characters. A local friend of mine happened to go to that restaurant and said to him, &#8216;Isn&#8217;t that you, Sato? I said to him, &#8216;Hey, isn&#8217;t that you, Sato?</span></p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> But &#8220;MARO&#8221; didn&#8217;t even raise an eyebrow and said, &#8220;Who is this Sato?　I don&#8217;t know. I guess he was afraid that his true identity would be revealed. His friend assured him, &#8216;I don&#8217;t remember which university he went to, but it wasn&#8217;t Keio.</span></p>
<p> On the other hand, the family home of his girlfriend A was also a green tea farmer located on a small hill in Fuji City, and was so grand that it was called &#8220;Goten&#8221; by the locals. It is evident that they were trying to make their profiles and identities more glamorous than they actually were.</p>
<p> Despite pleading not guilty, Sato was convicted of 17 years in prison. There is a strong possibility that he will appeal the district court&#8217;s decision. What will the high court decide?</p>
