Tom Cruise has appeared in many famous films, but has yet to win an Academy Award. ……

Tom Cruise is set to star in the latest film by acclaimed director Alejandro González Iñárritu, who has won the Academy Award for Best Director two years in a row, according to a report by Deadline.

This project, developed by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, marks Iñárritu’s first English-language film since his 2015 hit “The Revenant.” There is considerable anticipation whether Cruise will earn his first Academy Award through this collaboration.

Details of the plot are being kept under wraps, with the exception that it is an original story written by Iñárritu himself. The director has been meeting with actors recently, and Cruise is reportedly the first among them.

“Cruise has been involved in franchise projects such as the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series and ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ for the past decade, but he has been eager to work with auteurs. When he learned that Iñárritu was developing his next studio project, he immediately moved to arrange a meeting. After the meeting, Cruise became enthusiastic about the film role,” a journalist from a women’s magazine said.

Iñárritu’s latest work is his first major studio film since “The Revenant.” The film not only grossed over $500 million worldwide but also earned Iñárritu his second consecutive Best Director Oscar following “Birdman” (2014), which won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay, and brought Leonardo DiCaprio his first Academy Award for Best Actor.

“Cruise has been nominated for an Academy Award for acting three times in the past: for ‘Born on the Fourth of July’ (1989) and ‘Jerry Maguire’ (1996) for Best Actor, and for ‘Magnolia’ (1999) for Best Supporting Actor. He also received a nomination for Best Picture for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ (2022) and has been nominated four times in total but has never won. Therefore, to fulfill his long-standing desire to win an Oscar, he decided to star in Iñárritu’s film. Whether he can win an Academy Award for this film is now the talk of Hollywood,” said a film writer.

Although Cruise has won two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in “Born on the Fourth of July” and “Jerry Maguire,” as well as Best Supporting Actor for “Magnolia,” he remains without an Academy Award. Now, with his collaboration with the acclaimed director Iñárritu, the anticipation for Cruise’s long-awaited Oscar win continues to grow.
