<p class="p3"><span class="s1"> The man, a self-proclaimed consultant, allegedly swindled the woman out of a hefty bag fee by explaining that he knew the owner of Hermes and was a descendant of the Tokugawa family.</span></p>

<p class="p3"><span class="s1"> By February 9, Atago Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Shinsuke Kikuchi, 52, aka Jiro Kikuchi, on suspicion of extorting money from a woman in her 30s, who allegedly lied about being able to buy a luxury Hermes brand bag called &#8220;Birkin&#8221; and other items at a low price, and defrauded her out of about 1,800,000 yen. Kikuchi denies the crime, saying that he only accepted the money.</span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="strongInContent"><span class="s1"> The alleged incident occurred around 2009. Kikuchi and Ms. A met at a restaurant in Minato Ward, Tokyo. Kikuchi actually showed Ms. A several &#8220;Birkin&#8221; bags to make her trust him, and then misled her by saying, &#8216;If you give me money, I can buy them at a low price.</span></span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="strongInContent"><span class="s1"> Ms. A gave the suspect 1.8 million yen in cash as a deposit. Kikuchi is said to have said, &#8220;I am a descendant of a zaibatsu family. I am a descendant of a zaibatsu family. That&#8217;s why I know the owner of Hermes and can get it at a low price.</span></span></p>

<p class="p3"><span class="s1"> Ms. A is said to have given Kikuchi money for six bags in total, amounting to approximately 7.6 million yen. This is not the first time that Kikuchi has gotten into trouble for &#8220;brand fraud. Kikuchi has been involved in numerous cases in the past.</span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="strongInContent"><span class="s1"> He has been involved in several cases in the past,&#8221; said Kikuchi, &#8220;using multiple names instead of his real name. He told the victim a false profile to make her trust him. I am a descendant of the Tokugawa family&#8221; and &#8220;I am an employee of the Imperial Household Agency. The police are investigating Kikuchi, suspecting that he is guilty of many other crimes.</span></span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="s1"> Recently, fraudulent schemes have become increasingly diversified. If you are offered a &#8220;tasty deal,&#8221; you should be skeptical about whether it is true or not, no matter how respectable the person&#8217;s title is. The police warn people to refrain from giving large sums of cash to those who make unsubstantiated offers.</span></p>
