Modern Human Suffering Curse Services and the Targeting of Sorcerers
There is a service that can perform curses on behalf of the client. We looked into the problems that clients are facing in Reiwa and the actual situation of the curse agency service. What did we find out?
Sometimes people refer to some event that is the embodiment of misfortune, calamity, hatred, or enmity that cannot be explained by reason as a curse. Curses do not have any scientific basis. However, it is said that even in the Reiwa era, there is no end to the number of people who wish to have their grudges vindicated or their wishes fulfilled by relying on such invisible energies.
There is an organization called the “Jyuki-kai,” which has long studied the energy of “curses,” which is hard to believe, and performs conjuring on behalf of its clients. In this article, we will take a look at the actual situation and examples of the services provided by the organization, as well as the inner wishes of people that have changed with the times (statements by Jyuki-kai personnel are in parentheses below).
Solving problems with curses? The unknown world of cursing agents
A search for the word curse reveals that there are many types, such as black magic, white magic, and the poison that bewitches of the Yin-Yang path.
At Jyuki-kai, the main method is the ancient Japanese “Ushi-no-toki mairi” curse, which uses candles, five-sided nails, and straw dolls, and the enrolled witch doctor performs a spell according to the content of the consultation.
Ushi-no-toki mairi: A type of ancient Japanese curse in which a straw doll is nailed to a sacred tree at a shrine at the hour of the ox (around 1:00 to 3:00 a.m.).
According to the representative, the basic process of curse ritual services is as follows: First, they listen to the details of the client’s troubles and the specifics of the target to be cursed. Once they have gathered necessary information such as the name, address, date of birth, and a photo, they follow the ritual method of “Ushi-no-toki mairi” as mentioned earlier. This involves imbuing the straw doll with intentions, driving a five-inch nail into it, weaving the photo into the doll, or burning the straw doll, applying curses through their unique methods.
What kind of people consult with the Jyuki-kai? Many of them are women in their 30s and 40s who come to the door of Jyuki-kai with problems that cannot be solved by physical or practical means.
According to some, the clients are seeking revenge or retaliation for bullying, while others want to curse their abusive parents. Some people want to relieve childhood trauma, and others have been abused even as adults.
One of the techniques they advocate is called “shinjutsu,” or the art of death. As the name implies, this is a form of witchcraft that sends the target of the spell to death without the intervention of either the consultant or the sorcerer.
It seems that specific requests such as “I want insurance money, so I want you to kill the target” or “I want to see the other person die in front of me” are received from clients. However, whether such requests are actually feasible remains questionable.
Although it is hard to believe, the person in charge insists that in many cases, the necromancy technique actually works. In the past, there have been cases in which a client has killed his or her target by his or her own hands without waiting for the death technique to take effect.
Although the contents of the consultation were rather heavy, surprisingly, 70% of the consultations received by Jyuki-kai are for fulfillment of love, and some of the consultations are pure, such as “I want to be with the person I love” or “I want to lose weight”. In such cases, the five-sided nail is not used in the Ox Pilgrimage.
However, even in cases of unrequited love, there are requests from clients who wish for extreme measures such as killing the spouse of their lover to be together, or even to have their lover’s pregnant child aborted. Additionally, there are consultations where individuals seek curses against men who abandoned them after workplace affairs. Drawing a quote from the popular manga “Jujutsu Kaisen” in connection to curses, “There is no curse more twisted than love,” which aptly reflects this situation.
A new curse created by the rapid development of the internet in modern society
With the recent development of social media, there are users who desire to be with people they have never met face-to-face, as well as consultations regarding LGBTQ relationships, reflecting the changes in societal norms and trends. According to the representative, there has been an increasing number of consultations where individuals request to have death curses placed upon themselves.
“In the past few years, there has been an increase in people who find life unbearable and express a desire to die, with most of them being individuals who struggle with communication skills. With the influence of the Internet and social media, we’ve entered an era where superficial communication can occur without seeing the other person’s face. However, once they enter society, they realize it’s not as easy, and as members of organizations, they have to conform to their surroundings and sometimes endure unreasonable situations. While this may seem normal to us, it can be painful, yet they lack the courage to end their own lives. That’s why there has been a rise in people asking for curses to be placed upon them. Perhaps if they had been blessed with more encounters with others, they wouldn’t have felt this way.” (Representative)
The Jyuki-kai receives as many as 10 to 30 consultations a day. The consultations range from casual requests to get ahead in life or win the lottery to more serious curses that can affect people’s lives or death. Again, there is no evidence that the curses have any basis. However, there are certainly people who believe in the effects of the curses and seek solutions to their problems. As long as there are people who can be saved, the spell service will continue to be offered.
