Touching the body as if stroking it …… Bizarre behavior of the suspect family

A headless body was found at a love hotel in one of the most popular entertainment districts in Japan. About three weeks after the incident was discovered, the bizarre behavior of the family arrested for cutting off the victim’s head and taking it with them shook the whole country.

The suspect family’s home. Prior to the incident, a neighbor had seen Osamu spending a long time in his car without entering the house after returning home.

On July 24, 2011, Runa Tamura (29 at the time), a suspect of unknown occupation, and her father, Osamu Tamura (59 at the time), a psychiatrist, were arrested on suspicion of abandoning a corpse. The following day, the mother, Hiroko Tamura (then 60), was arrested on the same charge. The three family members were also re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

The shocking result of the arrest of the entire family, not to mention the brutality of the crime of cutting off a human head and taking it with them, led to the incident being featured on daily news and wide shows on various stations. Later, police investigations uncovered further facts.

After the arrest, video of the victim’s head was found in the suspect’s home. The seized video showed someone wearing gloves touching the victim’s head as if stroking it. The police are investigating the video as if it was taken by one of the three suspects.

The suspects not only cut up human bodies, but also captured parts of the bodies on video. Currently, the three suspects’ ability to be held accountable is a major point of contention.

The three suspects are currently undergoing an evaluation detention to determine whether or not they are criminally responsible. The detention began on August 28 and will expire at the end of February ’24. Initially, Osamu and Hiroko filed a special appeal to cancel the appraisal detention, but the case was dismissed by the Supreme Court. The statement of Runa, who is believed to be the main suspect in the case, has changed two or three times, and the detailed motive for the murder is still unknown.

About six months have passed since the incident occurred. Many mysteries remain in the most sensational case in 23 years.
