<p> The first trial for a shocking medical crime appeal was held on December 15 at the Tokyo High Court.</p>
<p> The defendant, Aiyumi Kuboki, 36, a former nurse, is charged with preliminary murder for poisoning to death three patients, a man and a woman. The crime scene was the former Oguchi Hospital in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.&#8217; According to the indictment of the first trial, in which the defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment in November 2009, Kuboki allegedly killed three male and female inpatients in their 70s and 80s in September 2004 by putting the antiseptic solution &#8220;Diamitol&#8221; into their IV drips.</p>

He confessed to the police that he had been repeatedly mixing disinfectant into IV bags of hospitalized patients with syringes since around July of the same year.</span></p>
<p> Between four and five days after September 15 of the same year, Kuboki injected disinfectant into the IV bags of hospitalized patients one after another, resulting in the poisoning deaths of three men and women in their 70s and 80s.</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> The number of victims is likely to be much larger. There may be many more than the three who were involved in the case. Kuboki also said that he injected disinfectant into more than 20 patients over a period of about two months. Most of the deceased patients were cremated, and no blood or other evidence was left behind. There is also no objective physical evidence, such as security cameras at the crime scene. In the end, only three cases of murder were prosecuted based on confessions.</span></p>
