<p> On December 5, Tomisaka Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Kazuaki Usui, 51, a company employee living in Taito Ward, Tokyo, on suspicion of violating the Sexual Performance Photography Punishment Law. Usui is the manager of a convenience store in Bunkyo Ward.</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> In August of this year, a customer discovered a suspicious object in the store&#8217;s multipurpose restroom. A camera in a plastic bag was placed on the shelf for toilet paper next to the toilet bowl. When the customer reported it, the store manager, Usui, allegedly tried to take it away by force.</span></p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> A customer who found the manager&#8217;s response suspicious called 110. The police officer who arrived at the scene found that Usui had confessed to the crime and that he had installed the camera for the purpose of taking voyeuristic pictures. It is believed that three customers had been victimized since the day before the incident was discovered,&#8221; said a reporter from the society section of a national newspaper.</span></p>
<p> What was surprising was the length of time Usui had been taking voyeuristic photographs.</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> He told the police that he had been a manager at another convenience store for 15 years. &#8216;I wanted to take pictures of things I don&#8217;t usually see, such as women&#8217;s underwear,&#8217; he said. When the police seized Usui&#8217;s computer and DVDs from his home, they found thousands of voyeuristic images. It seems that Usui had been looking at these images over and over again.</span></p>
<p> Usui is said to have taken voyeuristic pictures at other stores as well. The police are continuing their investigation, believing that there are many victims.</p>
