A young man with blond hair peeking out from a cassock hat and wearing a black mask is walking through the lobby of Haneda Airport. He is Jimin (28), a member of the seven-member Korean boy group BTS. The young man walking behind him with the hood of his hoodie pulled down over his head is Jungkook (26), also of BTS.

The two were in the middle of a private trip to Japan, heading to Hokkaido with their bodyguards.

Speaking of “BTS,” it was reported on November 22 that Jimin, Jungkook, and fellow members RM (29) and V (27) had begun the process of joining the South Korean military for military service.

“In Korea, all healthy adult males between the ages of 18 and 28 are required to serve in the military for 20 months; BTS members were exempted from military service until they turned 30 years old upon the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.”

“Of the members, JIN (31) enlisted in the Army in December 2022, J-HOPE (29) in April of this year, and SUGA (30) has been serving as an alternate military service member since September. This means that all seven members will now serve in the military,” said a music magazine editor.

Jimin and Jungkook were in Japan at the same time as the report. “It was Jungkook’s last trip before his military service, and while Jungkook apparently taped “Countdown TV” (TBS) in between, Jimin was completely private; they arrived on the same flight, stayed in separate hotels, and enjoyed sightseeing in Tokyo before going to Hokkaido.” (A BTS official)

The magazine saw Jungkook at a fried noodle restaurant in Ginza (Chuo-ku, Tokyo). There were many fans packed in front of the restaurant, probably following him from the hotel where he was staying. Perhaps that’s why Jungkook, sitting at the counter and slurping his noodles, kept his hood up while he ate. After that, he walked around Ginza for a while with his bodyguard, and then seemed to head for Haneda Airport.

Jimin seemed to be enjoying curry at “CoCo Ichi” in Shinjuku, which was posted on his instagram. The two then headed to Haneda Airport, apparently headed for Hokkaido.

“On November 29, several Korean media reported that the four men scheduled for military service would enlist in the army on December 12. They will be discharged from the army in June 2025 and it is expected that all the members will resume their activities together during the next year.”

Fans can only hope that they will complete their military service safely.
