Singer Daisaku Ogata is in “big trouble” with the Liberal Democratic Party. He was recognized as a candidate for the House of Representatives election, but was fired after only two months. ……

Toshio Ishikawa, entertainment reporter, tells us what’s going on behind the scenes in the entertainment industry: ……

Daisaku Ogata, a singer whose song “Wuxi Tabijo” sold more than 1.3 million copies when it was released about 44 years ago, is in trouble with the LDP headquarters.

Mr. Ogata had just announced in August that he would serve as the branch leader of the Osaka 18th Constituency in anticipation of his candidacy in the next lower house election. Yet, he was abruptly dismissed after only about two months.

Unable to accept this, Ogata told the party headquarters at a meeting in Izumiotsu City

If a party cannot take care of its candidates, it cannot take care of the people. If a general election were to be held, a great number of LDP candidates would suffer.

He also criticized the LDP for not accepting the election. And

I was more disappointed than angry at the dismissal. I hope that the party headquarters and the Osaka Prefectural Federation of the Liberal Democratic Party will take a hearty response.

He also appealed to the LDP.

Ogata, who has been active as a singer in his hometown of Fukuoka, originally lost his place in Tokyo due to a dispute with his office. Various reasons were discussed, but the biggest was trouble with his manager and his share of the paycheck.

Mr. Y, who reigned as a powerful figure in the entertainment industry, was the president of the office. It is likely that no other firm could touch Mr. Ogata, who was dismissed from the firm because of a dispute with him.

Having no place to stay in Tokyo, Mr. Ogata returned to his birthplace, Fukuoka, and became not only a singer but also a local actor in commercials and other activities in his hometown. The LDP took notice of Mr. Ogata’s popularity in his hometown.

However, since his election as branch chief, Mr. Ogata has not been able to work in the LDP.

“He has not set up an office in Osaka, has not moved his place of residence, and has only visited Osaka three times,” a local official said sadly.

This was the conclusion reached by the party headquarters after local officials complained that he had not moved to Osaka and had not set up an office.

On the other hand, Mr. Ogata said,

I am determined to complete the election as a branch manager and to put my bones into politics. The LDP should take responsibility for appointing him.

It should have been agreed that he would continue his activities in his hometown while continuing as a singer. I don’t like it when people say that I don’t do enough local activities.

He countered. His single-minded, self-possessed way of life has probably not changed since his debut.

The current turmoil reminded me of an “event” that took place at a “summer sports festival” for entertainers broadcast by a TV station about 30 years ago.

It took place on the island of Guam. I was there myself, but at that moment I had no idea what had just happened.

A popular person from the Johnny’s office at the time was the MC for the show. During the recording, Mr. Ogata suddenly grabbed the MC.

The staff and performers were all startled.

Filming came to a halt and Mr. Ogata was separated from the scene. Later, the program was aired on the grounds that he was “not” at the location.

Mr. Y, who is now deceased, was the president of Ogata’s office,

Mr. Y, who is now deceased and was the president of Ogata’s office, grabbed the MC and said that he could not forgive him for reporting the victory of another celebrity when, according to Ogata, I would have won. But the producer, director, and host of the show knew about it.

The office knew it, of course. But his character was unforgivable. He said, “Then I won’t go on the show. He is the kind of person who won’t fall for anything that is wrong. ……”

He said, “I’m not going to go on the air. The TV station must have decided that it would be better for them to have a popular idol win the contest even if they had to “make him do it” so that they could get better ratings.

The trouble between Mr. Ogata and the LDP reminded me of this. Considering his single-minded nature, I don’t think they will be able to come to an agreement on this issue. ……
