Asa Kamiya: Japan’s Most Beautiful University Student Pursuing a Global Dream
“Miss Tokyo University” in 2020 and “Miss of Miss Campus Queen” in 2021,
She plans to enter graduate school next year, majoring in economic policy, and her dream is to work at the World Bank.
It was the “Miss Tokyo University pageant in 2020 that made Asa Kamiya, 23, famous. After winning the grand prix, the following year she also won the grand prix at the Miss of Miss Campus Queen Contest 2021, earning her the title of the most beautiful female university student in Japan.
“I had no intention of competing in the Miss Contest in the first place,” she said. “But at the time, I was in the middle of Corona and there were very few candidates. I had a friend from my ronin days who was in charge of organizing the beauty pageant, and he asked me to enter. I didn’t want to lose because I was going to compete, so I thought, I am the cutest and the most interesting!”
In 2021, Ms. Kamiya made a splash in the entertainment industry with her intelligence and good looks.
But in 2021, Ms. Kamiya’s intelligence and good looks made her a household name, and she entered the entertainment industry with a bang. “In reality, I’m not a good speaker, I’m not smooth, and I don’t know how to take a picture Even when I am in Hinadan, my comments are not used at all. I was overwhelmed by the speaking skills of Akashiya Sanma (68), who was with me on the show, and the presence of Karen Takizawa (31). I am currently going through a trial and error process so that I can catch up with them as much as possible. My goal for the future is to work hard in the entertainment industry and meet Koji Nishida (49) of Laughing Rice. He is the comedian of my dreams.
In order to expand her activities, she is currently working hard on voice training and acting lessons in addition to her schoolwork.
“I really enjoyed playing the role of the adulterous wife in a recent lesson, and I would like to try my hand at acting as well. When I was in the Miss Tokyo contest, I felt I had to put on the skin of a good girl, but now I want to expose myself as an idiot and challenge myself in any way I can. After you win the Miss Tokyo University contest, that’s when the real battle begins!”
“The other day, I appeared on location for a variety show on Nippon TV, where I wandered around in a ditch for 10 hours in search of a phantom rat. Even so, only 15 minutes of the footage was used. I knew that the world of television was tough. If it makes you happy, I’ll even skydive and eat bugs! (laughs).”
Although she calls herself Kamiya the Idiot, her real job is as a student at the University of Tokyo majoring in economic policy. She plans to enter the University of Tokyo’s graduate school next April to earn a master’s degree and then work for the World Bank to help solve poverty issues.
“I want to be active globally,” she said, “so last year I gave a speech in English at an international conference called ‘One Young World’ in England. At the time, I had just started a low-sugar sweets company for my sister who suffers from type 1 diabetes, so I spoke to about 2,200 people from 196 countries about my business and the global diabetes problem.”
When I used to travel alone to Italy, I even hitchhiked by talking to a father with his child who lived there. I just want to gain experience so that I can be active in the entertainment industry and fulfill my dream of becoming a World Bank employee. Even if I fail, I will not be daunted. Because I’m a ronin to begin with!”
Sometimes she puts her body on the line in variety shows, and at other times she competes with the rest of the world. Combining beauty and intelligence, Japan’s most beautiful Miss Contest was the most greedy female university student in Japan.
