What did “FRIDAY” report 10, 20, and 30 years ago? In “Playback Friday,” we take a look back at the topics that were hot at the time. This time, we will look back at “Yae no Sakura” from the September 27, 2001 issue, which was published 10 years ago! Haruka Ayase is soaking wet at Kujukuri Beach.

A woman in a pink cheerleader costume dashed across the beach toward the waves as fast as she could. I was surprised when I saw that it was Haruka Ayase (28 at the time). A lot of people who seemed to be related to her were guarding the area, so I couldn’t get close to her, but she really looked like she was having a good time,” said a bather.

On the last weekend in August, a large group of about 50 people appeared on the beach at Kujukuri Beach in Chiba Prefecture, where bathers were sparse. At the center of the group was Ayase, the lead actress in NHK’s historical drama “Yae no Sakura. On that day, a barbecue party was being held at a facility near the beach to console the “Yae no Sakura” staff. Most of the cast members did not attend, but Ayase went out of her way to be there.

Apparently, all the participants came to the beach to play together. At first, Ayase, wearing a T-shirt and shorts, was chatting with the elderly staff on the beach, but eventually she began to play with the waves in the shallows. Eventually, the tension seemed to rise and she dove straight into the sea! He took off his T-shirt, which was in the way, and dashed toward the sea in his cheerleader outfit. She then dashed into the sea in her cheerleader outfit, and even after being swallowed by the rough seas, she headed out to sea breaststroke with seven or eight male staff members in tow, enjoying her “summer vacation” to the fullest.

The rating for “Yae no Sakura” was 14.2% for the September 1 broadcast. Compared to the 11.5% for “Dare Ieyasu” and the 12.0% for “Taira no Kiyomori” in 2012, which currently ranks as the second worst of all time, it does not seem so bad, but compared to the 18.7% for “Ryomaden” in 2010 and the 17.7% for “E” in 2011, the ratings for “Yae no Sakura” were a little sad. However, compared to the 18.7% for “Ryoma Den” in 2010 and the 17.7% for “E” in 2011, the numbers were a little sad. Toward the end of the film, the staff was hoping to raise their spirits and make a comeback…but the average viewership never recovered to 14.6% in the final rating.

However, after the crank-up, Ayase said , “It was a year that went by so fast, and I wanted to shoot more. I was able to experience anew how wonderful it is to create something on a site where morale is so high to create something good,” she said in tears as she spoke of the depth of her feelings toward the site.

Perhaps one of the reasons for her continued association with the festival, even after 10 years, is her “memories of summers on the beach.

It was a very hot day. She was so hot that she even turned up her T-shirt to show her stomach.
Ayase is playing with a toddler who appears to be a staff member’s child.
She takes off her T-shirt and hat halfway through the film to play in the ocean. She does not seem to mind if her hair is a little messy.
