Ph.D. in Cockroach Research…Entomologist Reina+World “Why the University of Tokyo Graduate School Graduate Rekejo is in a Bikini”
I want to improve the openness of academia! Ehime, who is currently conducting joint research on butterfly ecology with the Ministry of the Environment, also uses her G-cups as a weapon - she is also very active as a singer-songwriter and model.
After studying cockroach brains in a doctoral program at the University of Tokyo, she is now working with the Ministry of the Environment on butterfly ecology.
Did you know that there is a mysterious entomologist who posts pictures of herself in a swimsuit on X (formerly Twitter) with these words? Her name is Reina + World. She is probably the only person who can cohabitate three words that would never normally intersect in a language space of less than 140 characters: “University of Tokyo,” “cockroaches,” and “G-cups.
Reina says that she came to her extreme views because of a bitter memory from her time at the University of Tokyo.
I was doing research on heart regeneration until I got my master’s degree. However, that laboratory disappeared. ……The ostensible reason was poor performance, but another major reason was the professor’s severe akaharasai and sexual harassment. After advancing to the doctoral program, I switched to a laboratory related to yeast.
D. program, I switched to a laboratory for yeast research, but this time I suffered from power harassment by the professor’s subordinates. At that time, it was a professor in the insect laboratory who helped me. It was unusual for me to switch laboratories in my third year of a doctoral course, but he bought my enthusiasm for insects and gave me special permission. In that lab, I studied what types of cells are found in the area of the cockroach brain that controls intelligence.
From her own experience, Reina came to think that she would like to make people aware of the current state of the world of academia and improve the openness of the academic world. She came up with the idea of pushing herself to the limit.
I had been applying for modeling and singing jobs since I was a student,” she says. But at that time, I was pushing myself as a neat and tidy person. I was teaching science classes for children, so I thought it was not a good idea to dress too revealingly. However, after I joined COVID-19 crisis, my work was drastically reduced.
I happened to apply for a job as a race queen, and I was hired. I had a longing for sexy costumes, and my motto is to take everything seriously. I enjoyed doing it and gained confidence, so I started posting pictures of myself in a bikini on social media. Then I came up with the idea, ‘If I’m going to do this, I might as well post information about my favorite insect research and academia as far as I know! I came up with the idea.
Of course, there was some criticism of the association of G-cup sexy bikini photos with academia. ……
On the other hand, parents of students in the science class said, “If you are a researcher from Tokyo University and have G-cups, everyone will look at them, and they will be interested in science. On the other hand, I received many positive comments from parents of students in my science class, such as, “If you are a researcher from Tokyo University and have G-cups, everyone will look at you. In fact, I get more views when I show myself in a bikini. I am currently conducting research on the segregation of native butterflies and non-native butterflies after being selected by the Ministry of the Environment for an open position.
In order to earn money for this research, I also have to work hard as a TV personality. I also do sales to sponsors who support my entertainment activities on my own! In the future, I would like to be an “Insect Chan” like “Sakana-kun” (laughs).
A new star has been born in Academia.
