 On July 27, the Katsushika Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Naoki Kano, 38, of Ebisu, Shibuya Ward, and Tadanobu Koyama, 27, of Hamamatsucho, Minato Ward, both doctors at Tokyo Chuo Cosmetic Surgery and Shonan Cosmetic Clinic, respectively, on suspicion of kidnapping a minor. They are believed to have approached two high school girls who were on their way home from a fireworks display in Katsushika Ward at around 10:30 p.m. on the night of the 25th, and took them to a nearby karaoke bar.
 The high school girls refused the invitation, saying they were teenagers, but the doctors interfered with their attempts to leave. The doctors interfered with the girls&#8217; attempts to leave, forced them to drink alcohol on the street, and then took them to a karaoke bar. After being forced to drink several drinks at the karaoke bar, the high school girls felt that they were in danger and fled the bar about an hour later. However, Kano and the other suspects took the girls back to the karaoke parlor and made them drink again.

The doctors told the police that they were interested in picking up girls and that they wanted to take them home. The doctors denied some of the charges, saying they didn&#8217;t know the girls were underage.

 Kano and Koyama were well-known doctors who were highly regarded for their meticulous medical care. Recently, however, there have been a number of indecent assaults by doctors with good reputations.

 In June 2010, the former director of a beauty clinic was arrested for the fourth time on suspicion of indecent assault. He invited a female staff member to dinner and laced her drink with a sleeping aid. He is alleged to have taken the unconscious woman to his condominium and indecently assaulted her.
 In May of this year, the director of a dental clinic was arrested. He allegedly placed a towel on the face of a female patient and placed his genitalia on her cheek. He told the police that he was fond of her and could not suppress his feelings.
 In July of this year, the director of the neurology clinic was arrested for the fifth time. He &#8220;palpated&#8221; the lower body of several female patients for an extended period of time. More than 50 videos of the indecent acts were found on the suspect&#8217;s computer.
 Why are there so many indecent cases involving doctors?
 Doctors are called &#8220;Sensei&#8221; (teacher) from a young age and are respected by those around them. Some people may abuse their superior position to their patients. In general, doctors are the protectors of people&#8217;s health and beauty and have the image of being &#8216;respectable people. Patients and medical staff have a hard time refusing invitations from respected doctors.
 In addition, most of the crimes are committed behind closed doors in the clinic. Since only the doctor and the patient are in the room, and no third-party testimony can be obtained, it is difficult for the perpetrator to be discovered. Once the perpetrator gets a taste of the crime, he repeats it, leading to multiple arrests in many cases.
 Kano and Koyama, the suspects introduced at the beginning of this article, stated that they &#8220;enjoy picking up girls,&#8221; so it is believed that there are other victims. The police are investigating other crimes.
