 The incident occurred in May 2010. Katagiri strangled Miyata, who used to work at the same high school, with a seatbelt in her car in a parking lot in Obihiro City. The body was dumped in a wooded area in the city. Katagiri and Miyata were in a relationship despite the fact that each had a wife and husband.
 According to the opening statement, when Katagiri broke up with her because of the birth of her child, they argued in the car.  In the presence of Katagiri, the police searched a wooded area in Obihiro City and found Miyata&#8217;s body under the ground. There were marks on his neck as if he had been strangled. The cause of death was asphyxiation. The police arrested Katagiri on suspicion of abandoning the body.
 Katagiri and Miyata used to be colleagues. They worked at different high schools in Hokkaido for four years from April 2004 to March 2010.
 &#8216;They both seemed to be very popular with students and parents. If there was a student absent for a long period of time, they would be very accommodating and offer advice. They never raised their voices. He was a mild-mannered teacher with a passion for education. From that time on, Ms. Miyata and Mr. Katagiri were well known for their closeness.
 The two had a partner, but grew close to each other. Their relationship came to an end with the worst possible outcome: a murder case.
