Yuzu’s Yuji Kitagawa appeared at the arrival gate with “Yuzu-kko! Jin-kun!

It was midday in mid-June, and passengers on a flight from Sapporo were being spit out one after another at the arrival lobby exit of Haneda Airport. As soon as one of the men came into view, yellow cries rose from the women who were staring at the exit.

The man with wavy blond hair and black sunglasses smiled and lightly bailed when he saw them. At that moment, they shouted, “Oh my God, Yuu! Yuu-chan! A voice like a scream went up. The man called “Hitokun” and “Yu-chan” is Yuji Kitagawa (46) of Yuzu.

Yuzu is currently in the middle of a 17-stop concert hall tour. On this day, they were returning from their Sapporo tour, and many of their fans were on the same plane.’ Yuzu” ushered in the street live boom that began around 1997, and they have many fans of the same generation who have continued to support them since that time.

They are what we call ‘Yuzukko,’ and since they have shared their hardships with each other, Kitagawa is known to be friendly with them no matter what the occasion.

Indeed, among the fans, there were many women dressed up and pulling carry-on cases, as if they had been on the plane together. When they came near an elevator, Kitagawa stood along the wall, removed his sunglasses, and took one photo after another. When the elevator opened, Kitagawa alone got in and kept smiling at the fans waving until the doors closed.

On June 21, Yuzu distributed their first single in about a year, “SUBWAY. Kitagawa, who wrote the lyrics and composed the music, said,

Subway means subway. We live in a world where there is no day or night, and we carry a certain amount of responsibility in our long lives. Even so, this song is like a cheering song for people of my generation who want to walk toward tomorrow. I think it is a song that really resonates.

Kitagawa and Yuzukko’s “journey” will continue.
