 South Korean President Yun Suk-yeol, 62, landed at Haneda Airport (Ota Ward, Tokyo) from a private plane on March 16.
 This was the first visit to Japan by a South Korean president in about four years, since June 2019, when Moon Jae-in attended the G20 summit in Osaka. But perhaps more notable was the woman who took President Yun&#8217;s arm down the plane&#8217;s ramp. It was First Lady Kim Keon-hee, 50.

 There is a woman whose popularity in Korea is soaring to the point that her fashion and her favorite products are in the news on a daily basis. She is Kim, the wife of President Yun.
 In December 2021, a fan site called Keon-Sarang (I love you, Keon-Sarang) was launched. Initially, there were about 30,000 members, but since May of last year, when Yun assumed the presidency, the number has surpassed 90,000. The number is now approaching 100,000.
 Kim casually shares his personal life on his Instagram. His favorite white sandals (approx. 3,500 yen) and skirt (approx. 5,500 yen) on his Instagram became the talk of the town and sold out at various stores. Kim Keon-hee is so popular that a search for &#8220;Kim Keon-hee&#8221; on a major Korean online shopping site returns more than 2,500 hits,&#8221; said a Korean newspaper reporter.

 Why is Kim attracting so much attention?
 She is young and beautiful for a first lady, and she is a strong supporter of Yun. She is also unique among first ladies in that she established an arts planning company, Kobana Contents, in 2007 and has been active as a female businesswoman.
 Kim met Yun through an acquaintance of her mother&#8217;s, and they were married when she was 39 years old. Mr. Yun fell in love with Kim at first sight. His words of persuasion were, &#8220;I will cook for you for the rest of my life. The reporter continues.
 At the time, Yun was just a public prosecutor and didn&#8217;t have much money. Kim later recalled, &#8220;He [Yun] had a lot of money, but he didn&#8217;t have much. He (Yun) only had about 2 million yen at the time of our marriage. I had increased my assets and expanded my business during the IT boom that started in the 1990s,&#8217; he said. Her assets are said to be around 700 million yen. Her financial support helped propel Yun to the presidency.&#8221;
 One episode that reveals her true character is this.
 When Yun was attorney general, a reporter from the video media secretly recorded her conversation in order to find out what Kim was up to. The audio was released by TV. Kim said, &#8216;I was talking with my husband about living together in a quiet place after I quit as Prosecutor General. Kim&#8217;s favorable impression of the two increased because of their friendly relationship.
 Kim&#8217;s behavior prior to her diplomatic debut at the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) summit in June 2022 was also highly appreciated.
 She made a round of greetings to each of the previous first ladies before making her first appearance on the international stage. It is not easy to pay this much attention to the senior First Ladies. I think Kim is more suited to politics than Yun.
 Kim is the center of attention for her every move. The first lady&#8217;s words and actions will likely be the key to the ups and downs of the Yun administration.
