Just before the shoot, Seto was sitting on a bench, in full concentration mode.

He’s one of the actors who’s really helping me right now,” he said.

I feel like I want him to be in every episode.”

Screenwriter Mitani Koki had high praise for actor Seto Kouji (34) in his comments on “The University of Laughter,” a performance commemorating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the PARCO Theatre. The play, starring Seiyo Uchino and Kouji Seto, sold out as soon as tickets went on sale to the general public, and additional performances were immediately scheduled.

The University of Laughter” is a masterpiece two-person play by Mitani Koki that premiered in 1996. It starred Masahiko Nishimura and Yoshimasa Kondo. In 2004, the play was made into a movie starring Koji Yakusho and Goro Inagaki, and since its return in 1998, it has not been performed once in the past 25 years. Mitani said, ‘It is such an important work that I should not have done it unless I had two actors who could be trusted with it, and I didn’t want to do it.

In “Kamakuradono no 13-nin,” another Mitani production, Seto played the role of Tokifusa, the younger brother of the main character, Hojo Yoshitoki, and became a very popular character with the nickname “Tokusa.

Tokibusa was a beloved character, which was rare in a storyline centered on a blood-soaked power struggle among the nobles. He was so beloved that even Emperor Go-Toba, who was supposed to be Hojo’s sworn enemy, took a liking to him. On the other hand, his natural ability to do evil deeds under orders from Yoshitoki attracted viewers and made him very popular on social networking sites.

Also, Seto’s role as Shiro Kagetsu, a mystery writer in “The Medium Detective: Jade Jotsuka,” became a topic of conversation at the same time he was appearing in “Kamakura-dono” as Tocuisa. In the beginning, he seems to be a buddy who helps the main character played by Kaya Kiyohara to solve the case, but in fact he is a serial killer who has been repeatedly committing bizarre murders. In the end, Kiyohara even calls him a “perverted sycophantic bastard.

On the set, he and Kaya Kiyohara were in perfect harmony.

A few months ago, this magazine witnessed the location shooting of “Jozuka Jade” in Tokyo, where Kiyohara was dashing to the rescue of two strong-looking men who were groping her. It may have been early in the story, but there was no glimpse of the “perverted sycophantic bastard” in his good-natured appearance. It was impressive to see Seto close his eyes and concentrate for a moment before the camera rolled.

After the big stage performance of “The University of Laughs,” we are looking forward to seeing “Tokusa” take a further step up.
