On January 22, about 10 believers gathered for a “Sunday service” at a modest church in Kobe City. After a sermon by a female pastor and a hymn sing-along by the congregation, a man holding a French bulldog quietly entered the chapel.

After the service was over, the man slowly stood on the platform. The congregation is quiet, waiting for the man to speak. With a pensive expression on his face, the man grabbed the microphone and began to speak in an extremely quiet voice.

On December 8, 2011, a man who served as pastor of a church in Kobe City was arrested by the Hyogo Prefectural Police on suspicion of violating the Methamphetamine Control Law. The case attracted a great deal of attention, not only for the fact that the pastor used methamphetamine, but also for the man’s background.

The man arrested was a man named Mori Yasuhiko (64). He was originally a designated gang leader, but after being excommunicated in his 40s, he entered a Christian seminary, which he had long believed in, and established a church in Kobe City in 2010. From 2011, he also established a non-profit organization to support the rehabilitation of delinquent boys and girls, and was actively involved as its representative director,” said a person who knows Mori.

The prefectural police had obtained information about Mori’s drug use and were investigating. Then, on December 8 of last year, investigators found Mori in a passenger car in Kobe City and accompanied him voluntarily to the Kobe Kita Police Station. A urine test reportedly revealed a positive test for methamphetamine.

It is said that the person who filed the accusation was a woman who had a relationship with Mori. She told the police that she had been subjected to a “kime-sek” (sexual intercourse while drugged with methamphetamine), which apparently led to her arrest.

Mori’s unique career as a former gangster-turned-pastor has often been covered by the media. For this reason, his followers were shocked when they learned of his arrest.

When you hear that he is a former gangster, you might imagine that he is a tough guy, but he is not like that at all. He talked with any believer without hesitation and always seemed to treat the boys and girls he supported with kindness and enthusiasm, so it was hard to believe that he was arrested for methamphetamine.

After his arrest, the church and the NPO announced Mori’s dismissal and resignation, respectively. Since Mori was a well-liked person, there were calls among his followers for an explanation from Mori himself.

In mid-January of this year, it was reported that Pastor Mori had been released on bail, and it was decided that he would actually come to the church’s “Sunday service” to give an explanation.

The Friday digital reporter who obtained this information visited the church in Kobe City on January 22, the day Mori was scheduled to appear. That is the scene described at the beginning of this article.

Although his voice was low and it was quite difficult to hear, Mori held the microphone for about three minutes and spoke to the congregation as follows.

I was in pain and suffering. (Anyway, I sincerely apologize for the trouble and worry I have caused you. I would like to hear all kinds of stories, but I think I need to take some more time. (omission) Since (the church) must continue to exist from now on, I ask for your cooperation even though it will put a lot of burden on Ms. 00 (the name of the female pastor). I am truly sorry for the trouble I have caused you.”

Mori, who had reportedly denied the charges, did not speak about the incident, but only apologized weakly.

Some people are defending Pastor Mori, but I think there are believers who want to hear what really happened. I am sure that the same feeling is shared by those involved with the NPO. For the sake of those who have believed in him so far, I hope that the truth will be revealed.

The case has become a hot topic on the Internet and social networking sites, with words such as “kime-sex pastor” flying around. The case has been the subject of much controversy, with words such as “kime-sex pastor” flying around on the Internet and social networking sites.
