Ieyasu, as portrayed in the NHK Taiga Drama “What to do about Ieyasu”, appears (so far) to be weak and timid. What is the reason why he was able to take the reigns of the country? Hideki Wada analyzes his path to “happy old age!” Illustration courtesy of Afro

The “difference” between the plump Ieyasu and the scrawny Hideyoshi is remarkable.

The biggest reason Ieyasu was able to rule the country was that he was a health nut and lived a long life.

Dr. Hideki Wada, a psychiatrist and author of the bestselling book “The 80-Year-Old Wall,” asserts, “Ieyasu was a plump man.

Ieyasu was a plump man. In contrast, Hideyoshi was skinny. People live longer when they are a little overweight. Most Japanese people are too thin. It is almost a crime to recommend a rough diet, saying it prevents lifestyle-related diseases. Dieting for the sake of beauty is a modern form of footwear.

Dr. Wada said angrily. Tokugawa Ieyasu lived to the age of 73 in the era of “50 years to life. This was a very long life for those days.

What should we do to live as long and healthy as Ieyasu? Dr. Wada, who has long been involved in medical care for the elderly, has come to a rather simple conclusion based on domestic and international literature, the latest research, and his own experience.

We should aim to be “happy-go-lucky” people. I have seen many examples of people who are well-nourished, slightly overweight, and highly motivated, including sexually active people, who live long and healthy lives. I call such elderly people “happy-go-lucky. In their 50s 50s 60s and 60s as well as those in their 70s and 80s. 70s and 70s in their 70s 80s People in their 70s and 80s can live more freely, doing whatever they want. They can eat what they like.

The current Japanese medical system is based on the concept of ‘subtraction. If your blood pressure is high, your blood sugar is high, your cholesterol is high, or you have no particular symptoms yet, you are put on a diet based on test results, or you take medicine. But if this deprives you of vitality, you will not be able to live happily.

Live freely

Another problem is the erroneous diet preferences propagated by wide-spread TV shows and other media. There is also an air of assuming that low-calorie, low-fat foods are ‘good for your health,’ but this is nonsense.

There is currently no cure for dementia. However, many data and studies have shown that people whose brains are well nourished are less likely to suffer from dementia. Japanese obesity is on a different level compared to Westerners. In fact, many Japanese are so cholesterol deficient.

Eat what you want and do what you want. Living freely without any kind of restraint is actually the best way to be healthy.

Let’s follow Ieyasu’s example and fall in love!

Ieyasu was never a strong fighter, but I think he was able to consolidate his position in the country because of his prudent character and, above all, his long and healthy life. He cared about his health more than anyone else and read books on Chinese medicine and pharmacology. He also liked to take strong spermicides, and had many children during his lifetime.

Love is not only for the young. It is better to be in love at any age. Japanese people tend to consider sexual desire, especially love and sexual desire of people over middle age, as taboo, but sexual desire is essentially a natural desire and is very important. Unfortunately, sexual desire declines with age. Men, in particular, experience a decrease in libido, motivation, and memory because of a decrease in male hormones.

For both men and women, the older we get, the more we should be proactive in love and keep our spirits up. Yorifusa Tokugawa, who became the first lord of the Mito Domain, was the first person to be appointed to the position when Ieyasu 60 years old. Ieyasu was 60 years old.

He was a child of Ieyasu when Ieyasu was 60 years old. You have to enjoy your life.

Hideki Wada’s book, “The 80-Year-Old Wall,” was the No. 1 bestseller in 2022. At the end of the year, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also purchased a copy.
