The malignancy of papa katsu activities continues unabated. Last September, six high school girls and others were arrested in Kawasaki City for extorting a man in his 30s who called them under the guise of “papa katsu” and taking his car and other property worth 1.12 million yen. There is no end to the number of other thefts and frauds. Asuna Sakura, a cabaret actress and manga artist who works at one of Kabukicho’s most famous cabaret clubs, Gentleman’s Club, reveals the latest of these scams: the “gratuitous girls” scam.

The “Okarigake Girls” who are paid large sums of money by men. We take a closer look at the reality of this situation.

Did you know that there is a woman in Kabukicho who has been paid over 300 million yen in cash by several men?

Ms. A, a sex worker in her early twenties, was getting hundreds of millions of yen in cash from men she met through “backstabbing,” in which she receives cash from sex customers without going through the store, and from men she met on matching apps. She paid tribute to Ms. A until she was up to her neck in debt with consumer loans, so much so that a number of men were flat broke, and she has attracted attention as a charismatic figure among the papa-katsu girls.

The term “okuri-joshi” refers to women like Ms. A., who paid large sums of cash contributions without any specific compensation, and although Ms. A would back-pull, she never had physical relations or even went on dates. It was also Ms. A who coined the term “thank you girls. About three years ago, she began selling a manual on the Internet on how to “receive” money. The contents of the manual were very well written.

The manual is very well written and describes in detail the process of getting middle-aged men, whom she calls “Ojis,” to pay her cash. The manual’s target audience was surprisingly all the men who knew the target, including classmates and family members.

What’s in the Manual” that Turns Men into Boneheads

The key to getting middle-aged men to pay tribute is to make them “fall in love with you. The manual contains dozens of pages of detailed information on how to do this.

How on earth do you get a large amount of cash? The method is to make them fall in love with you for real. The manual suggests targeting men who have no friends or lovers and no hobbies. By contacting them with gentle and thoughtful messages, the “ojis” who have no other interests will spend most of their time thinking about the “okara-girls” and will fall in love with them seriously, become mentally dependent on them, and seriously dream of a future in which they can build a family together. Moreover, during this time, the girls do not have physical relations with each other, saying that they are “sick in the womb” and so on.

It is only after they have fully fostered romantic feelings that they are forced to contribute cash. The “Okare-girls” begin to send sick calls to him, saying that they are in debt and want to die. Then “Ojiba” wants to help somehow, so he listens to them and gives them money. Some men blindly believe the words of the “wanted girls” and transfer the cash without ever meeting them.

If they give even a small amount of money, such as several tens of thousands of yen, they are told that they have other debts that they cannot tell anyone about and that they cannot stay with them unless they pay them back, and they gradually begin to transfer hundreds of thousands of yen. The more money they give, the more they can’t back out, and the more they transfer more money to keep the relationship alive.

Of course, some men demand that they prepare an IOU or show their ID, but the girls say that they usually write the IOU and show their ID. Naturally, they expect to be asked to return the money or to run to the police saying, “This is a scam! However, according to Ms. A’s manual, she can avoid getting into trouble by continuing to contact her clients frequently after receiving the money.

Ms. A still sometimes receives more than 10 million yen a month in contributions from men, most of which disappears into Kabukicho’s host clubs. In order to contribute everything to the hosts, she has no home, and has even lived in a hotel and had her cell phone turned off. Money comes and goes as they say, and the money the girls have earned is also circling Kabukicho.
