Workman”, “Jubankake! Honest Real Estate” …… is a work manga that focuses on various occupations. Many of them can be sympathetic to working adults, as they offer an interesting look behind the scenes of an unfamiliar industry, are moved by the characters’ hard work and growth, and are impressed by their attitude and pride in their work.

Did you know that there is a manga featuring a “person who cannot do his/her job”?

The main character, Tsumeko Takano, a new graduate at an IT consulting firm, appears to be extremely competent, but she is devastatingly inept at her job.

The Incompetent Hawk” by Asasue Hanzaki

“– Actually, I …… get a — headache when I think about difficult things.
You think that if you solve the part you don’t understand, it won’t be difficult.
But it’s no good. I don’t know what I don’t know.

While everyone has a hard time dealing with her, the person in question has a very strong mental attitude that doesn’t mind that she can’t do her job at all. She is a confident person who says, “I don’t think about whether I am needed by the company because I am needed by this company,” and has become an in-house NEET who staples documents.

When asked why he became a consultant, he replied, “I don’t think about whether the company needs me. Takano gives a surprisingly shallow reason. I don’t understand why he wants to …… ……? / “The Incompetent Hawk” Hanzaki Asasue

In contrast to Takano, his colleague Hiwada, who is actually competent but has a weak mentality and stomach, looks “incompetent. He admires Takano’s confidence even though he is not good at his job and asks him, “Do you want to work together with me to get a contract? They miraculously worked well together and brought a positive result for both Hiwada and the company.

When I was thinking about a story for a book, I thought, “It would be cool to have a ‘hawk with claws hides them’ type character,” he said. But there are already many such characters in the market, so I thought, “What if I reverse it? I thought, “What if I reverse it?

(Manga artist Asami Hanzaki) “A hawk with ability” is reversed to “an incompetent hawk. Hanzaki liked the sound of the title, so he wrote a story using it and sent it to the editor of “Kiss”. This led to a successful serialization of the story.

Hiwada is timid and lacks confidence in her interpersonal skills. However, when he is partnered with Takano, who appears competent on the outside but not on the inside, Hiwada changes as well.

Contrary to the incompetent Takano, Siskida is a “competent hawk. He is too timid and has trouble communicating with others and is unable to demonstrate his abilities.

He is not sure if he is suited for this job.” “I am worried about the eyes of others who judge me.” …… For working people who are under daily stress and pressure at their jobs, the problems of Siskin can be sympathized with. His growth is one of the highlights of the story.

Although he has no experience as an IT consultant, he used to work for an IT company before he decided to become a manga artist .

I think my own experiences are reflected in the character’s feelings, such as ‘I hate job hunting’ and ‘I get nervous going to business partners. I also use my own experiences of things I was not good at when I was a company employee in the “Kinsuta-kun’s Bad Things Series” in my work.

HINOIDA teamed up with TAKANO and went to a customer’s site. He has never been able to show his ability, but he seems more relaxed than ever. Will he be able to get the contract? The Incompetent Hawk” by Asasue Hanzaki

Recently, the work environment is changing drastically with the reform of work styles, the spread of remote work, and the rise of AI. Although the film has a comedic touch, it is a story about what will happen when the time comes when many people’s jobs are taken away by AI. This was the question that inspired Hanzaki to imagine the characters.

At the time of the conception, the term ‘singularity’ was becoming a popular topic in the media due to the evolution of AI.

I saw TV programs that argued that ‘AI will take away jobs, genetically engineered baby geniuses will emerge, and the majority of humans will become useless and worthless. I thought lightly. I thought lightly. I thought it would be nice to have a character who doesn’t care about being useless, and that’s how Takano-san’s character was created.

I don’t intend to draw a serious and straightforward story at this point, but I would like to continue thinking about what work is in the first place as I draw it, as if to say, ‘It’s only work, but it’s still work,’ or rather, the meaning of work is wavering now that IT and AI are evolving.

Mr. Hanzaki said with a flexible mindset, “Perhaps in the future, Mr. Takano could become a very talented member of society, or on the other hand, Mr. Kikuta could become an in-house NEET. We look forward to seeing more of his unique work manga in the future.
