In the late afternoon, Boat Race Edogawa was crowded with boat fans even though it was a weekday. And on this day, there was a star in the racecourse who was well suited to the enthusiastic stands. Tsuyoshi Shinjo, 49, was standing in the special glass-walled bleachers, his bright white teeth gleaming.

 This is the first time I've been able to see a video of myself in action. Shinjo was suddenly appointed as the manager of Hokkaido Nippon Ham. The team was looking for a new manager with a sunny disposition and nationwide popularity that could bring back the dwindling customer base.
