Shun Oguri finished his drama “Kamakuradono no 13-nin”. He ran through the year as the main character, but…

A week has passed since the last episode, “The Time of Recompense,” of the historical drama “Kamakura no 13-nin” (NHK), and the excitement of the last scene between Hojo Yoshitoki (Oguri Shun) and his sister, Masako (Koike Eiko), has not abated. This year’s drama was a battle without honor and humanity in which Yoritomo’s vassals played a fierce power game in the chaotic medieval city of Kamakura, centering on the man who learned everything he could from Yoritomo (Yo Oizumi), the founder of the Kamakura shogunate and a man who put the samurai world on solid ground.

Koki Mitani, who wrote the script for the 13-minute-long final scene, wrote in a serialized essay for the Asahi Shimbun

The script was inspired by a work by Agatha Christie,” he wrote in an essay for the Asahi Shimbun.

The film’s final scene, which took place 13 minutes into the filming, was the subject of an essay by Mitani Koki, who wrote the screenplay for the film, in the Asahi Shimbun.

In the last week of filming, the crank-up was about to begin. On the second night, perhaps under pressure, he sent an e-mail to Mitani saying, ‘I can’t sleep.

Oguri was encouraged by the message, “Please rest assured that Yoshitoki was perfect and face the day tomorrow,” and he went to the final scene. The last scene was shocking to CP Takuya Shimizu, who was in charge of production, who said, “Yoshitoki Hojo, who is no longer Shun Oguri, looked like a wounded beast and I almost choked watching him.

The character of Hojo Yoshitoki, played by Oguri, did not play a leading role in major events such as the Genpei wars and the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate, so not much remains to be said or done, and there is no clear answer to his performance. While growing out his hair and practicing horseback riding, Oguri had no other choice but to delve into Yoshitoki’s thought process and create the role.

Oguri said, “Because I think about Yoshitoki every day, I’m not sure if I’m Yoshitoki or Yoshitoki is me. This kind of experience is one of the best parts of playing the leading role in a historical drama.

He also reflected on the preparation for the role, saying, “By becoming one with Yoshitoki, I was able to picture scenes and lines in my head in the latter half of the drama without looking at the script.

The day after the final episode, Oguri appeared on the program “Suddenly, Can I Tell Your Luck? (Fuji Television Network). During that appearance, an interesting exchange took place between Oguri and the fortune teller Hoshi Hitomi.

In the program, the star said, “From next year, the “chi” with overseas countries will be connected, and the year 2024 is a year of success and achievement in taking on new challenges. Oguri, who is not fond of talking about his own goals, clearly expressed his desire to become a world-class actor to the stars.

Last year, Oguri made his Hollywood debut in the movie “Godzilla vs. Kong,” but suffered a major setback. Now he may finally have his chance for revenge.

Shun Oguri is going to “go to the U.S. to pick up something he left behind. The day when Shun Oguri “goes to the U.S. to pick up his lost and found” may soon be upon us….
