 A scandal has surfaced involving Shosei Nakamura, 23, a young catcher who Hiroshima has high hopes for.
 The October 27 edition of the Shukan Bunshun (weekly magazine) reported that Nakamura had been picking up several women through social networking services. When Ako and her mother approached him for advice, he allegedly lawyered up and replied, &#8220;I have no intention of getting married.

 In the summer of his junior year at Hiroshima&#8217;s Hiroryo High School, Nakamura hit six home runs at Koshien, breaking Kazuhiro Kiyohara&#8217;s record for most in a single tournament. His peers include Yakult&#8217;s Munetaka Murakami and Nippon Ham&#8217;s Kotaro Kiyomiya, making him a member of the &#8220;hit&#8221; generation.
 However, Nakamura has a tendency to be uneven. When he joined the team, Hiroshima had three candidates for regular catcher: Tsubasa Aizawa, Yoshiyuki Ishihara, and Shogo Sakakura. Usually, there are only three catchers who can make the first team. Nakamura had no chance to take advantage of that, and there was an atmosphere of rottenness about him. He was not serious about it, or perhaps he was not taking it seriously. &#8230;&#8230;

 Nakamura&#8217;s character of being a bit of a jerk seems to have originated in his youth.
 In an interview with Yugan Fuji in August 2005, Nakai said, &#8220;When his former coach, Tetsuyuki Nakai, first saw Nakamura as a junior high school student, he thought, &#8216;If only he was good at baseball, he&#8217;d be good at baseball. He was a helpless idiot,&#8221; Nakai told &#8220;Yugan Fuji&#8221; in August 2005, &#8220;and his haircut looked like something you would be warned about at school.
 Nakamura&#8217;s parents divorced, and his mother raised him as a single mother. Nakai told him, &#8220;Take good care of your mother. Nakai told him, &#8220;Take good care of your mother. If you don&#8217;t take care of your parents, how can you take care of others? How can such a person be good at baseball? Nakai rarely allows high school graduates to enter the professional game, but I heard that he allowed Nakamura to do so because Nakai wanted to &#8220;show his mother his success as soon as possible.

 During the spring camp of his rookie year in 2006, Nakamura had a talk with the late Katsuya Nomura on a TV program. Nomu, like Nakamura, was a catcher and grew up in a mother-son household. During the interview, Nakamura said that Nomu gave him the following advice.
 She said, &#8220;Make it your motivation to play every day to make your mother comfortable. Young players should practice twice as much as regular players. Be filial to your parents.
 However, the words of his mentor and Mr. Nomu did not seem to resonate with Nakamura.
 Last offseason, he had a voluntary training session with Seiji Kobayashi of the Giants, who is also from Hiroyo, and was advised, &#8220;Don&#8217;t rot under any circumstances. &#8230;&#8230; It pains me to think how Nakamura&#8217;s mother must have felt when she found out about the scandal.
 I wonder if Nakamura will be able to use this trouble as a springboard for a change of heart this time around.
