There is no mistake.

At his first trial on September 12 at the Chiba District Court, the defendant admitted the charges in a depressed, muffled voice. The man is charged with manslaughter. He is accused of taking the life of a young woman for an unreasonable reason.

The incident occurred in May 2009. The body of Aimi Nakagome, an apprentice hairdresser who was 19 years old at the time, was found in a bamboo grove in Sodegaura City, Chiba Prefecture. When her family and friends were unable to contact her, they searched for her based on the location information on her smartphone and found her lying in the woods about 450 meters from her home, bleeding.

The police proceeded to analyze the security camera footage and the smartphone, and the culprit emerged as Shota Natsumi, 25, a part-time worker at a karaoke bar living in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Natsumi met Nakagome through social networking services, and after several exchanges, they met for the first time on the day of the incident.

According to the police, the defendant stabbed Ms. Nakagome in the right thigh with a kitchen knife with a blade of about 17 cm in length. The depth of the stab wound was more than 10 cm. The cause of death was hemorrhagic shock.

Natsumi was not good at socializing with other people since he was a child. Her family owned a temple, and she went to a local public high school and then to a Buddhist university, but dropped out after a year or so. He began working at a bakery, but quit after being warned about his mistakes.

We hear that he liked “bizarre and grotesque manga and video games, and on social networking sites he was looking for girls with suicidal thoughts. Ms. Nakagome also posted, ‘I want to die,’ and it seems that defendant Natsumi was consulting with her. It is said that he told her in a very clever manner, saying things like, ‘My father is a Buddhist priest and a counselor, so I can listen to what you have to say.

At the first trial, it was revealed that Natsumi had sent messages to Nakagome saying, “I will kill you. However, the prosecution pointed out that “the victim had requested a wound that would require hospitalization, and her death was outside the scope of her consent.

Natsumi may have intended to commit an indecent act. The day after Nakagome’s incident, he had sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 18 whom he met on a social networking service in a park bathroom in Yokohama City. He was arrested under Kanagawa Prefecture’s Youth Protection and Nurturing Ordinance. There are several other women who met Natsumi through SNS and were asked by him to have sex with them.

The death of a 19-year-old woman was switched from murder to manslaughter because the defendant’s intent to kill could not be confirmed based on her statements. The trial is scheduled to conclude on September 15, and the verdict will be handed down on September 22.
