On September 8, the Kyoto Prefectural Police’s Investigation Section 1 arrested four men on suspicion of quasi-forcible sexual intercourse. The four suspects were Yuki Katai (21), Yugo Yamada (21), Ken Hamada (22), and Ryo Makino (21). All are members of the American football team at Doshisha University (Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto).
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of May 21. The four suspects were drinking at a bar in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, when they approached some women they had never met before in the bar. They persistently offered alcohol to one of them, a 20-year-old female college student.

The Doshisha University football team was preparing for a fall league game against Kinki University on September 17. However, due to an assault by a member of the team, the football team announced that it would suspend its activities indefinitely from September 9.
