The work introduces a variety of study methods, from the bizarre, such as improving calculation skills by doing mental arithmetic while playing ping-pong, to the down-to-earth, such as writing a diary using English vocabulary learned that day. The book fundamentally rejected the conventional wisdom that in order to pass entrance exams to top universities, students need to have inborn abilities such as IQ and memory, and the idea that with effort and ingenuity it is possible to pass even the University of Tokyo was met with a huge response.</p>
