 The drama &#8220;Uncle Gonai Uncle&#8221; (BS-TBS) is a unique drama in a lineup of high-profile fall programs. The drama is attracting a lot of attention on social networking sites, with the veteran actors, who everyone has probably seen at least once, playing and frolicking like young boys, being described as &#8220;soothing&#8221; and &#8220;fun, like a late-arriving adolescent.

 Based on a manga of the same title serialized in &#8220;Evening&#8221; magazine. The manga depicts how corporate warriors (uncles) can make the most of the &#8220;after-hours&#8221; working hours that have been created as a result of reforms to the way they work. The story is drawn from the point of view of how corporate warriors (uncles) can make the most of the &#8220;after-regular hours&#8221; created by the reform of work styles.
 The &#8220;spring playground equipment&#8221; in a park, which resembles a panda and keeps swinging so hard that it causes anemia. The &#8220;corn snacks,&#8221; in which you try stacking pointy corn snacks on your fingers and other parts of your body. Bokatsu&#8221; is a way of relaxing after a long day of work, and &#8220;After Hours&#8221; is a variety of activities that can be enjoyed by the elderly.

 Mariko Nishimura, the author of the story, recalls how she felt when the decision was made to dramatize the story: &#8220;I was contacted by phone when they told me about the drama.
 When I woke up in the bathroom that night, I thought to myself, &#8216;Is this a dream &#8230;&#8230;? I doubted my own head. I spent a week or so thinking I was imagining things. My father, who is also Mr. Hoshi&#8217;s model, was in tears (laughs).
 When I heard that Ken Mitsuishi was going to play Mr. Hoshi, I thought, &#8220;He looks just like him. When I saw the photos of both Katsumi Takahashi and Jun Hashimoto, I was surprised and thought, &#8220;They look just like each other. I also had a chance to see the script, and it was very interesting and full of the &#8220;charm of an old man. I was inspired, and I&#8217;m thinking, &#8216;I have to make the manga even funnier! I&#8217;m thinking, &#8216;I&#8217;ve got to make it more interesting!

 Three uncles gather at a park after regular hours and go all out to play with &#8220;aimless strolling,&#8221; &#8220;neighborhood bicycle race,&#8221; and &#8220;building a secret base. In the drama, Mr. Hoshi, the bank manager, is played by Ken Mitsuishi, Mr. Watanabe, the supermarket manager, by Katsumi Takahashi, and Mr. Tsuneda, the sales manager of a sporting goods manufacturer, by Jun Hashimoto.
 The dialogue between the three men, each of whom has a different character, is interesting: Mr. Tsuneda is athletic and has the temperament of a bratty general, Mr. Watanabe is mischievous and honest in his emotional expressions, and Mr. Hoshi is serious and oozes good-naturedness.

 The story also focuses on Reiko Matsunaga (played by Maria Shimizu), an office worker who, while at first finding the &#8220;uncles&#8221; strange, gradually begins to develop a &#8220;uncle-cute&#8221; feeling toward them. How she will interact with her uncles in the future is also a point of interest in the drama.
 Ms. Matsunaga said, &#8220;I originally had a friend in high school who loved &#8220;uncles,&#8221; and I drew this story thinking of her. I wasn&#8217;t as much of an &#8220;uncle lover&#8221; as she was, but as I observed them in order to draw the manga, I gradually grew to like them. Now, I guess Matsunaga-san is almost like me.
 After I went to art school, I still thought, &#8220;What&#8217;s that? Maybe there are a lot of girls who like older men? From there, &#8220;Ossan Zurubu Love&#8221; and other works came out, and I was given a project for &#8220;Evening&#8221; to write a book called &#8220;Kaerenai Ojisan&#8221; (&#8220;Uncle Who Won&#8217;t Go Home&#8221;) by the staff of Evening. I felt that &#8220;ojisan&#8221; was a boom.
 Dramas that spotlighted &#8220;uncles&#8221; such as &#8220;Osansuru Love,&#8221; &#8220;The Three Old Men,&#8221; and &#8220;Viprayers&#8221; became hits, and the terms &#8220;ojisan moe&#8221; and &#8220;good-looking guy&#8221; became commonplace. The term &#8220;uncle moe&#8221; or &#8220;good-looking guy&#8221; has also become common these days. In &#8220;The Uncle Who Won&#8217;t Go Home,&#8221; the cuteness of uncles is depicted in abundance, but it is not just their &#8220;moe&#8221; or &#8220;cuteness&#8221; that makes them so appealing.
 Why do &#8220;uncles&#8221; &#8220;not go home&#8221;&#8230;&#8230;, or rather, why do they &#8220;not go home&#8221;? It is because reforms in the way of working have led to a strict no-overtime policy, and even if they go home early, they have no place to stay and no place to go&#8230;&#8230;. The story is rooted in the sadness of such Showa-era salarymen.

 Despite this modern background, the work depicts uncles who enjoy their after-work regular hours with like-minded friends to the fullest. The overwhelming freedom and joy of life in this story gives readers a comforting feeling that &#8220;it&#8217;s okay to be an adult this way.
 The men in the story are not &#8220;old friends,&#8221; but people who have only recently become acquainted with each other and only vaguely know each other&#8217;s identities. I think it&#8217;s quite nice and happy to have such &#8216;friends.
 The free and innocent smiles of the uncles in &#8220;The Uncle Who Won&#8217;t Go Home&#8221; will soothe you. A paper version of the book was also released in conjunction with the drama, and a sequel, &#8220;The Uncle Who Won&#8217;t Go Home,&#8221; is currently being serialized in &#8220;Evening&#8221; magazine.
